Honestly, I was more nervous than ever. I stood behind the stage, watching one after one people audition. They were all great. I mean, one sounded like his balls hadn't dropped yet, but other than that, it was pretty terrifying. "A.J Hudson." He called out into the auditorium. I sighed and stepped out. I just stared out into the emptiness of the auditorium. "What are you going to be singing, A.J?" He asked me.
"The Climb by Miley Cyrus." He nodded. The music started playing and I just closed my eyes and let the music come out. I sang along as I normally would. Nothing at this moment was bothering me. Everything seemed normal.
The music ended and I opened my eyes. "That was great, A.J. Thank you." I nodded and left the auditorium. The hallways were quiet, as the school day had ended. I walked to the front door of the school. My mom's car had been sitting outside, as she was waiting for me to leave. She smiled as I got into the car. "How was it?"
"I think my one way ticket out of Slushieville just wore off."
She looked over at me as she was driving. "What do you mean by that?" I looked down to the ground. "Being Finn's sister, kinda made me invincible to slushies. I mean, it was some sort of bro code that they couldn't break. And um...joining the glee club. Well, it might make some of the guys on the football team more...reckless." I looked down. The car ride went silent. "Are you really worried about this?"
I nodded. "Kind of. You know, I mean...I've always loved singing--not so much in public. But I'm nervous. I mean, I spend hours every morning just getting ready for the school day. I don't want to have grape slushie on my face after I spend two hours just finding something to wear."
"Well, if you're really worried about it, talk to Finn. I'm sure he can work something out."
"That would be affecting his status too. I mean, honestly. Mom, I love him and all. And he's technically supposed to be there for me, considering he's the older brother. But, he wouldn't risk his reputation for something like this."
"Talk to him, A.J. You never know."
I nodded and smiled. I'm just not so sure that whatever Finn does could change it. When we got home, I went right up to my room and just sat on the bed. I couldn't move. Glee was possibly the nerdiest thing in the school, and I just auditioned for it.
My mom started dinner and I was doing my homework. The front door opened and I heard Finn's loud voice coming from downstairs. I heard his footsteps coming up the stairs before opening my door.
"Mom told me you wanted to talk to me." I sighed and turned around. "I'm going to be getting slushie facials for the rest of the year." He furrowed his eyebrows and sat down on one of the beds in my room. "Why?"
"Because in order for me not to get an F in Spanish, I had to audition for glee club. I was wondering--hoping, really--that you could talk to the guys in football. Maybe get them to leave me alone for a little while."
He nodded. "Yeah, I'll talk to them. But...I can't promise anything, A.J. They are pretty cruel when it comes to that kind of stuff." I nodded. "Just...talk to them."
He smiled lightly and walked out of the room. I just hope that the bro code still worked...even if I was still in glee.
