DELIA

October 17th
Dear Dimitri,
Nah. It doesn't matter. I'm trying not to take what they say to heart. They're not even worth it. I know what I have with you and that's enough for me. I'd totally be your in-real-life best friend, too.

It's my mom's birthday today. I baked her a strawberry chocolate cake (her favorite dessert) and watched her favorite movie, Dirty Dancing. I miss her so much. My dad couldn't even be bothered. He says he misses her, but he acts like she never existed in the first place. He totally forgot it was her birthday when I asked if he was going to watch with me.

Talk to your mom when you're ready. Only you can decide when you're comfortable talking about something like that. Don't feel guilty, though. There are some things I don't talk to my dad about, although in my defense, he never asks.

It's cute that you wanna be a veterinarian. At least you'd get to play with all kinds of animals. I've always wanted a dog, but my dad won't let me get one. I'm surprised he let me have 2 ferrets instead. Anything that takes responsibility, though, my dad keeps out of his life. Which is probably why we don't talk as much.

Yellow? I was guessing red (because of your hair). I've written 2 books. A romance and a mystery. I'm working on my 3rd now (a thriller). I'm writing this letter instead of working on it. I do have to say it's more fun writing mystery and thrillers than romance.

My question: Halloween's coming up. Are you dressing up?

Love, Delia

(In this hypothetical situation, their McDonald's ice cream machine would totally work).
