DIMITRI

April 2nd
Dear Delia,
I am so sorry. I kind of suspected it from the way you talked about your dad in your earlier letters, but I hoped and begged to God it wouldn't be true. You need to get out of that house. You can't stay there anymore. Please, Delia, get out. Run away. Stay at a friend's house. It worries me every day the longer you're there.

I'm also sorry my letter's so late. I had a lot going on. I finally told my mom. Everything. That I saw dad hit her. She had no idea. We talked and cried for hours. She planned on staying with him, but I convinced her to get a divorce. She called her lawyer and started the paperwork. Dennis and I have been staying at our grandparents' house.

My dad came back from his business trip and got so angry when he saw the divorce papers on the counter. He found out it was me who convinced mom to go through with it. When I came home that night to get clean clothes, he started hitting me. He gave me a black eye and my mom almost murdered him. She called the cops and they arrested him.

The only question I have for you is: Are you safe?

Love, Dimitri
