"Torres?"

It caught my attention in the middle of our siesta time here in our house in Quezon City. Umalis saglit si Daddy para sumagot ng tawag at pagbalik niya, iyon na ang pinaguusapan nila.

"I only know Drew. Anong meron sa kanila, Dad?"

"Emergency. I had to check some further information regarding Arnold Torres,"

"Arnold? You mean Drew's father? What happened? Akala ko ba ay may kaso silang kinakaharap ngayon?" Tita Nada asked as she seated on the lounger.

Malaki na ang tiyan niya dahil last trimester niya na nga. She might actually give birth anytime now. Kaya rin kami nandito ngayon para samahan sila.

Daddy sat beside her. Tahimik lang akong nakinig kahit pa kuryoso na sa balita dahil mukhang hindi maganda 'yon.

"The Buenvenidezes opened the case that happened years ago. Si Augustine yata ang nagbukas noon para sa hustisya ng Abuela nila at ng panganay na apo," Daddy shared.

"Huh? And why is it connected with the Torreses? And all these names? Saka si Augustine? Why, what about their family?"

Wala talaga akong alam sa kahit anong issue ngayon. I just heard about the Dela Vegas, Cuervas and what Caius told me. Na may kinaharap parin nga na issue ang pamilya nila pero hindi ko alam kung ano 'yon.

"They believe that the Torreses are the one behind the ambush that took place years ago which involve the Buenvenidez's supposed heir and the late Josefa Buenvenidez. They are just gathering evidences to be brought up by the court but Arnold Torres was seen dead this morning at his own house,"

Huh?

I couldn't process everything right now. Wala pa akong maintindihan.

"Lifeless? What was the reason? Assassination?" Tanong ni Tita Nada.

Umiling si Daddy, "Based on initial investigation, it was suicide. Tinitingnan pa ang anggulo ng assassination pero mukhang imposible 'yon,"

"How is it impossible? Knowing na may kaso silang kinakaharap, it's easier to just kill the suspect than bring it up on the court, right?" I butt in.

Daddy glanced at me, "It's the Buenvenidez you are talking about, anak. Maaaring mabigat ang nangyari sa pamilya nila pero hindi ako naniniwalang ipinapatay nila. They ask for justice and they are working under the law. Hindi sila gagawa ng anumang rason para masira ang pangalang hinahawakan nila," Sagot niya sa akin.

I pursed my lips at that. Sabagay, may point. Buenvenidez has been trying to protect their name and royalty. Hindi sila basta bastang gagawa ng bagay na alam nilang pwedeng ikasira nila.

"So suicide.. bakit raw? Were there hints? Letters? O may nakausap ba bago mangyari?" Si Tita Nada.

"Probably because of the allegations of their family.."

"And will his death solve the problem? Hindi naman." I said blatantly.

"Right, Tito. Mas lalo lang iingay ang pangalan nila dahil doon," Suporta ni Niña sa sinabi ko.

Daddy sighed. "But it may cover the on going cases. Lalo na dahil mukhang may kinalalaman pa si Zeph Torres sa nangyayari sa mga Dela Vega ngayon,"

"Gosh, sino naman 'yan? Ang dami dami namang tao.." I rolled my eyes.

Niña chuckled. "Kuya ni Drew 'yan," Bulong ni Niña sa tabi ko.

"Oh ano namang ginawa niya sa mga Dela Vega? Don't tell me connected din 'to sa Buenvenidez?"
