The box contained a beautiful diamond ring. I couldn't believe what I was seeing and I was so distracted that I didn't notice I was already crying. It seemed that it wasn't the reaction he wanted to see so his smile faded upon seeing my face.
"Is something wrong?" He asked with concern. I shaked my head. He wiped the tears from my eyes. "You don't have to answer me anything if---"
I cut him off by kissing him. "Yes." I moved away and looked at his surprised reaction. "I realized I haven't asked the question yet"
I chuckled while he got the ring from the box. He looked at me, "May I?" I nodded. He got my left hand and wore the ring on my finger. He smiled as he looked at my hand. "It fits." I nodded. My heart was beating fast and I couldn't understand what was happening nor why I was doing all of this.
I know he was sick. I know we won't be able to do a lot of things considering that he was living on borrowed time. I know that once we get married and he leaves me, there would be no turning back.
But at this moment, I didn't mind. Right now, I don't care of the future. All I wanted was to focus on what we have right now. This was the path I wanted when I was young and I would still choose it no matter what.
Chanyeol looked at me closely as if he was analyzing my face. "Is there something on my face?" I asked while he chuckled. "No. I just can't believe this is really happening." I smiled and placed my head on his chest.
He slowly hugged me back and after a couple of seconds, he coughed. I can feel his chest move, making me move away to turn to his face. His expression changed and he seemed to be hurting a lot. I held his hand and lightly patted his back but he continued coughing.
I removed my jacket and gently put it on his back. His grip on me tightened as he tried to catch his breath. "Take it slow" I commented as I continue to support him. He nodded but he looked so tired and hurt.
He cleared his throat one last time before closing his eyes. I just watched him and hoped that he would be okay. A couple of minutes passed and his grip on me loosened. He opened his eyes to look at me, "I'm sorry, Baekhyun."
I shaked my head. "Let's go back?"
Hand in hand, we slowly walked outside his safe place. No one seemed to mind us. The afternoon breeze felt great. Chanyeol was taking small steps and I was keeping my pace with him.
By the time we reached his room, he was exhausted. I guided him until he was laying on his bed. "Next time, don't run." I teased him as I pulled the blankets on his body. He chuckled a bit and closed his eyes.
"Can I sleep for a bit?"
I nodded and smiled, "No need to ask for my permission."
I was about to fix my things when he spoke, "Of course I do, you're going to be my husband."
I paused and chuckled. I never thought he'd say those words again.
