Singer Crown Ep.2 - Battle Box

The staff of the survival show Mayse was a part of followed the young girl to her schedule at Inkigayo, filming her as she got ready for her performances of Make A Wish and From Home. From the last episode, Mayse knew it was battle rounds where she and another contestant or contestants would have a sing-off of a chosen song between them and it will be performed in front of the judges who will choose the winner of that round. The maroon-dyed hair female sat alone as the staff of the show filmed her. "Mayse-ssi do you know who you are going against?" a staff asked the female who gave a small nod.

"I was chosen to go against Kyungmi unnie," she said softly, not wanting to bother her members inside the room preparing for their stage. "I messaged her saying I would meet her after my schedules which will end at around 1," she said with a sympathetic smile. "I hope unnie is okay with practising at such a late hour."

Q. Why do you feel sorry for Kyungmi?

Mayse shuffled in the seat as she began to speak. "Because I work long hours and I'm currently promoting, it's difficult to find time in my schedule to practice for the show," she explained with a sad look on her face. "I worry that I may not be able to fully show my capabilities this round because of the lack of practice I've had."

A montage was then shown of Mayse performing with NCT, various captions about her professionalism appearing on the screen that soon faded into showing her walking into a practice room where contestant Kyungmi was waiting for her. "Ah, Miyoungie!! Hi!!" the black-haired female beamed at the idol who smiled and greeted her back with just as much enthusiasm she could muster. "Let's choose a song first then divide the parts so you can rest," she said to the female who frowned at her.

"You don't want to practice unnie? I don't want to make this performance bad for you," the idol said to the older female who waved a dismissive hand at her - gesturing for her not to worry. "Okay then...What song should we pick?" Mayse asked her.

"I was thinking Taeyang's Eyes, Nose, Lips. What do you think?" Kyungmi told the idol, pulling up the song as the sweet melody and voice of the senior idol filled the practice room. Mayse quickly agrees with the older female and the pair begins to divide their parts to be evenly distributed. "Okay! Let's practice on our own and meet twice a week to practice! Is that okay with you Miyoungie?" she asked her.

"I'm fine with that unnie," Mayse smiled, locking her phone after bolding her parts of the song in her notes, glancing up to smile at the female in front of her. "My promotions are ending soon so I'll be free for the next few weeks!" she beamed. Soon the day of the battle would begin. Mayse sighed, fiddling with her given microphone as she stared at the tv screen inside the waiting room she shared with the other contestants of the show. Siyeon of Dreamcatcher had just finished her performance with a local singer, winning the round which made Mayse even more anxious. Mentally, Mayse begins to encourage herself as she lets out a deep breathe when her name and Kyungmi's were called. Smiling at each other, both females entered the stage where they were greeted by the judges.

After talking and introducing themselves and their song, Kyungmi and Mayse got into their positions and waited for the music to begin - their voices captivated everyone as they sang to their heart's content. When the round was over, Mayse stood beside the older female, fiddling with her mic as she waited for the judges' decisions. "From this performance, we can see that you girls have a lot of potential but sadly...we must give this win to Mayse," one of the judges said as Mayse placed a hand on her heart, exhaling deep breathes as Kyungmi hugged her, congratulating the idol for winning. "Congratulations."

"Unnie I'm so sorry," Mayse frowned when they got off the stage, hugging as Mayse teared up slightly knowing how badly she had performed. "I did so bad I don't know how I won," her frown deepened as Kyungmi hugged her.

"Aigoo~ don't be sad," she smiled at her. "You did so well okay? You deserved it, you put so many emotions into your voice I am so proud of you!" she beamed at the young female. "Promise me to win this competition okay?" holding her pinkie out to Mayse, the idol smiles and nods, linking her pinkie with hers and sealing the promise.
