Singer Crown Ep.3 - Loved One

The next round's theme was to sing a song dedicated to a loved one. Mayse had many people she wanted to sing to but the person she wanted to dedicate her performance to was the one and only - the angel himself: Kim Jong Hyun. A well known and loved singer from SM Entertainment and an older brother figure to Mayse during her trainee years. For the past few weeks leading up to her performances, she had been skipping NCT practices just to perfect this performance for Jonghyun. In his honour, she prepared a slideshow to be shown behind her as she sang which showcased memories she had with him. Every sweet and loving moment they had - whether it was publicly or privately, would be shown on performance day. When the day arrived, Mayse had been sitting in the makeup chair as she got ready. She wore little to no makeup and wore a white a-line dress that reached the floor, a pair of white heels hid underneath the material as she prepared herself for an emotional performance. Inside the interview, she had let everything go and explained her performance to the staff who felt her sadness through her words as she was on the brim of crying during the interview.

Q. What song did you choose to sing?

"I choose to sing one of my own songs actually," Mayse said to the staff. "It's not to be narcissistic per-say but more a monument to a very dear person to me," she gave a sad nod as she felt tears making their way visible to the camera. With a heavy sigh, she elaborated more on her performance. "That song I have chosen to sing is Breathe. A song that has a lot of meaning and value to me."

Q. Who is this song dedicated to?

"I decided to dedicate my performance to someone I love very much that I sadly lost a few years ago," she sadly smiled as sad music played in the background. "SHINee's Jonghyun. He was a very close friend of mine and honestly speaking...he was like an older brother to me. Jonghyun oppa would babysit me when I was still a trainee and would take me out shopping and treat me to ice cream," she smiled sadly at the reminiscing memories. "I miss him every day."

Walking out to the stage, Mayse stood in the middle of the stage with a soft smile, greeting the judges and as usual, introduced her song choice and explained why she chose the song. During the performance, Mayse sang with a lot of emotion, her eyes tearing up as she sang whenever she thought about the man who had produced the song and gave it to her for her solo career. She thinks back to all their memories and then finally remembers the day she received the news of his death. That day broke her truly. When the performance ended, the audience was silent for a few moments before applauding the idol who sadly smiled and bowed in gratitude. Once given her feedback, Mayse made her way back into the waiting room where she cried silently in the arms of her manager who comforts her with affectionate pats.
