Another loss

recently fans have been noticing mayse's sad expression during v lives and nct videos posted onto their daily nct youtube channel. many worried about her well-being, going as far as emailing sm entertainment about her health. after a few days of being with the boys, she asked her managers to dismiss her from their future schedules that involved her after mama due to the recent events in her life. fans noticed it and now wondered what had happened for the strong female to go on temporary hiatus, especially during such an iconic era known to be as nct 2020.

mayse noticed the fans' concern and released a statement on her instagram story, informing fans to not worry about her and that she was just taking a break from her busy schedules. in reality, mayse was actually going through another possible death of a family member. this time it was her dog of ten years. her dog; bear had gone into surgery for a tumour in her left back leg. because of her schedule, she had to delay her visits to the vet for bear's checkups which is why she asked not to be included in schedules after mama so she could take her dog to the vet and schedule her surgery. her boyfriend, hyunjin had been staying at her apartment during this ordeal, wanting to comfort her during this difficult time. the nct member had been crying since she had dropped off bear at the vet for the surgery. it would take a few days till her dog could possibly be able to come home, if she survived the procedure, something mayse was hoping for.

a few weeks passed and mayse received an alarming call from her vet informing her that bear had sadly passed away during her week of recovery. the staff informed her of the details such as what could've caused the death and apologised for her death to mayse who told the worker it was fine and thanked her for her work. when she hung up, mayse couldn't help but let out a choked sob as she curled herself into a tight ball on the couch. crying her heart out as juniper, her shiba inu whimpers at her crying, laying by her and placing his paws on her legs in comfort.

that night hyunjin came over to find his girlfriend crying - eyes red and puffy, her face tinted muted pink and dressed in a hoodie and sweatpants, juniper laying by her side. "baby, what happened?" he pouts, taking off his mask and shoes, placing his belongings down before he sat beside her.

"s-she didn't make it..." she said barely above a whisper, tears brimming her eyes once more. hyunjin frowns and brings her into a tight comforting hug, whispering sweet things into her ear as she cried silently in his arms. "i-i don't know what to do. w-why did she have to go?" she cried into his chest as she clutched a fistful of his shirt.

"i'm sorry baby," he softly spoke to her, petting her hair, allowing her to cry. "at least now she's in a better place. she'll bring joy to your parents and your siblings up there, maybe even bring happiness to sulli sunbaenim and jonghyun sunbaenim," he comforted as he heard her sniffle, sitting up, still in his embrace as she wiped her tears away with her hoodie sleeve.

"yeah...she'd bring them joy," she softly spoke. "they love her like she was theirs also," she smiled. hyunjin patted her head affectionately and smiled at her. the next day, mayse asked sihyun to accompany her in seeing bear at the vet, speaking with the staff who did the surgery on her dog and thanked them for their hard work despite them apologising for not being able to save her. "it's fine. bear was a strong girl, fighting it for so long. it's more my fault for not bring her here earlier for the surgery," she frowned. "thank you again," she bowed once more.

mayse held a private funeral with nct, pandora and close friends for bear and thanked everyone who had attended. everyone understood her pain and were more than happy to support her grieving time - especially the nct members. they knew how precious the pomeranian was to their female member. a gift that was given to her when she was ten by her father, one thing that reminded her of mentioned person who was no longer with her. "another loss," she sighed sadly, staring at the new grave she had asked for in a pet grave near her apartment. "hopefully you'll bring happiness to the angels above. i love you."
