Ryder's POV
Everything happened so fast. I passed one green light after another. And suddenly Aury hopped on my lap while driving. I didn't quite get what she was doing before the truck hit us. The whole left side of the car was damaged. I saw Aury's face covered in blood. Her forehead was bleeding and she lay unconscious on my lap. A piece or two of glass pieces were stuck into her neck. I checked on Aarold and saw him holding his head. I felt like I couldn't move. Everything went numb. I saw the truck driver open the car door. I tried to wake Aury, but she wouldn't budge. Aarold got out of the car and got Aury. He called an ambulance and after placing Aury on the bed, dragged me along.
Why couldn't I still hear everything properly? I saw Aarold rub her palms. They gave me some medicines which brought me back at that moment. Aarold was already crying by the time we reached the hospital. I don't know why but I stood there emotionlessly. I didn't know what to do. The most important person in my life was in operation theatre right now and I was to blame. It was me who forced her to come. Why always me? I broke down on a bench. Tears kept flowing down as the reality of all this hit me. What if she doesn't wake up?
Aarold sat beside me with head in hand and elbows on his knees. All he said is...
"Not again. She has to stay with me."
He had already called others and they ran just a few moments after. Andrew was furious.
"Why is it always you? Why? Every time something or the other happens to her when she's with you and she always gets hurt by saving you. If you don't know how to keep her safe and happy please stay away from her. And forget your whole fucking relationship. When she wakes up, you're breaking up with her. That's the only way she'll stay safe," he said and walked away.
"It's not your fault Ryder. Andrew's just a little overprotective when it comes to her. Don't take what he said seriously," Sydney patted my back as tears ran down her eyes. I nodded. It was my fault. I should have listened to her. We'd have been safe, cuddling or watching movies or playing games. We sat outside the operation theatre for what felt like an eternity. The operation finally finished and she was transferred to a different room. The doctor came out. He ranted on about what had happened to her. A fractured rib, a fracture in her right hand, and a few more injuries whose names I couldn't remember. He said that she will be fine in a few days because the injuries are not very severe. They let us visit her and stay in her room. As soon as I heard that I quickly made my way to her room. Andrew was there.
"You stay away from her," Andrew told me angrily and I nodded.
"Just let me be with her for some time and then I'll leave. Please," I pleaded. Sydney touched his hand. I didn't even know she was present here.
"Fine. Just 2 hours and then you'll leave her alone," Andrew told me and I nodded. I knew that was the only way to keep her safe. My life was broken and I didn't want her to be a part of it. She deserved to be happy. I went to her and sat beside her on a chair.
"You know I never want to leave you. It was all my fault. I shouldn't have forced you to go then and then. If I'd listened to you, we'd be at home. Probably watching Stranger things. I'm so sorry this happened. Please forgive me if you can. I'm in love with you Rory. Every part of you. I will always love you. I just can't..." I broke down again. "I cannot be with y-you anymore. It's only for our betterment. I keep doing things that hurt you. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." I cried in her hand.
I slept with my head on her hand for almost an hour before Aarold walked in. He told me I should probably leave, not in our friendly tone though. I cleared my face and walked outside. As soon as I walked out Mr. and Mrs. Parker walked inside. They rushed to the doctor without acknowledging my presence.
I took a cab to the police station and completed what we were going to. They said he was a very dangerous man and still they didn't get any information about him. I dialed Millie from Aury's phone. I didn't know how it was with me the whole time. A piece of my heart broke again when I saw her wallpaper. It was a pic of us kissing and she was on my back.
The only thing I thought was to put Ben in jail, then there's no more meaning to life. My parents were away for quite a long time now and were to continue. I didn't feel like living at home anymore. I took a bag filled with everything I needed and went to the waterfall in my dad's car. My plan was to stay here unless they caught Ben and then die. I didn't have the guts to face aury again. Every girl who has been my priority and only mine has been taken away by me. First Lorelie and now Aury. I don't want anyone to come into my life anymore. The best option to do that is cut out life not relations.
The next day I visited Lor because she seemed to be the only one who listened to me. I opened my heart to her. Even she didn't respond but at least she heard me out. I visited her every morning and returned to the waterfall.
