Delaney awoke to feel Fred gently kissing her cheek.
"Hey, wake up. It's almost time for your test," he kissed her cheek again.
"You know just how to wake me up," she grinned, turning her head to face him.
"Well, I hope I would after a year and a half," he chuckled. "I snuck into your room earlier this morning while you were still sleeping and grabbed your robes so you could sleep a bit longer."
"I knew there was a reason I kept you around," she laughed, slowly putting her bra back on and getting dressed.
"Well I think there's a bit more to it than that," Fred had a cheeky smile on his face as she watched Delaney get dressed.
"Maybe just a little," she giggled, giving him a quick wink.
"I wish you didn't have to go," Fred wrapped his arms around her waist once she finished dressing.
"Me? You're the one that's leaving school early," she turned in his arms to face him.
"About that...Umbridge might ask you if you've seen us. She suspects we're up to something, she just doesn't know what. So if you could tell her you haven't seen us or you saw us go somewhere we would never go, that would be great."
"You act like I don't already know how to do this stuff," she giggled.
"Right, it was your idea for the fireworks," he chuckled. There was a silence between them for a moment, the moment they had been dreading for months, the time to say goodbye. Sure, they had said goodbye to each other in years past for summer holidays, but Delaney would almost always end up staying at the Weasleys at some point. Now however, they knew Fred wouldn't be returning to Hogwarts next year, this was the last time they would get to see each other in the comfort and safety of the castle.
"I think it's time for me to go downstairs," Delaney finally said. She was trying hard to fight back the sting in her eyes.
"Hey, no crying for me. We'll get to see each other while you're on summer holiday. Besides, I can't have any criers as a part of our plan," he grinned.
"Oh shove off, Weasley," she giggled, hitting his arm while just one tear fell down her cheek. It wasn't intentional, Delaney didn't want to cry, it had just grown too heavy to stay up at her eye.
"Hey, this is only a temporary goodbye," he wiped the tear from her cheek with his thumb before gently kissing her.
"I know," she smiled up at him. She was feeling much better now that she had talked to him. The heavy feeling in her chest lifted thinking that he was getting to chase his dream. "Now I really should be getting down to the Great Hall."
"Hey," he grabbed hold of her hand, pulling her back towards him. "I love you."
"And I love you," she smiled again, gently connecting their lips for a quick peck before leaving his room.
The walk down to the Great Hall didn't hurt as bad as Delaney thought it was going to. She felt better after talking to Fred. She knew they would get to see each other over holidays. Now, it was time to focus on her O.W.L.s.
Just as Fred and George had suspected, Umbridge stopped Delaney just in front of the door. She saw out of the corner of her eye, two sets of fiery red hair peering around the corner.
"Miss McKinnon, I need you to tell me if you have seen the Weasley twins today. I know you're close to them so don't bother trying to lie and say that you aren't. Keep in mind that if you lie the consequences may be severe," Umbridge said pointedly.
"Oh, yes ma'am, I think I saw them walking that way," she wore a fake smile on her face, pointing in the opposite direction of where the two boys stood.
