Chapter 41: Disguised
"Down here." Peter dropped down and scanned the area. He gave Harley the all clear and the older boy dropped down. Peter walked around the room as Harley stood up from his crouched position.
He looked at Peter. "Where are we? What are you doing?"
Peter ignored him and pressed his hands against the wall. He stopped and smirked to himself. Peter pushed on the wall and it turned, revealing a secret door. He gestured Harley over. The two boys walked down the narrow hall before it opened to a wider room.
"There." Peter pointed to a bunch of spare armor and weapons.
"How'd you know this was all here?" Harley asked as Peter handed it to him.
"Karen helped." Peter stated. "Here."
Peter handed Harley a gun that Hydra had left.
"What's the plan anyway?" Harley asked as Peter handed him spare ammo.
"Hydra knows we're out. So, we need to disguise you. Put these on." Peter handed Harley a Hydra soldier uniform, complete with the mask. Peter handed him a comm that Karen hacked into. "You ready?"
"I have no idea what we're doing, but sure."
"Go out that door. I'll be right above you."
~~~~~
Harley walked through the hallways. He fell in line with some other Hydra soldiers. His heart was beating so loud in his chest that he was worried they would hear it. Harley tried to keep up the act.
"I'm right above you. By the looks of it, the group you're walking with is headed to the roof." Peter spoke into the comms. He was crawling above them in the vents.
Harley didn't respond and just kept walking. They stopped and the ones at the front headed into the elevator. Some were told to take the stairs.
"Once you're in that elevator. I won't be able to be with you. I'll still be on the comms but be careful. I'll somehow meet you up at the top." Peter warned.
If Harley didn't think his heart could beat any louder or faster but he was proven wrong. His throat became dry and his hands grew sweaty. Finally, his group was next to take the elevator up.
"Hey, you. Come here." A guy called him over. Harley then looked to the guy and realized he was looking right at him. "Did you not hear me? Come here!"
Harley swallowed his lump in his throat and stepped forward. "Yes, sir?"
"There's supposed to be 30 soldiers in this group. I counted 31." Harley tried to calm his breathing and heart. "What are you doing here?"
"I am following orders, sir." Harley stated.
The man raised an eyebrow. "Take off your mask, soldier."
Harley's breath hitched. "I- uh."
"Did I stutter?" Harley stood there paralyzed, not knowing what to do.
"When I say now. Book it to the stairs." Peter told him.
"Well?"
"Now!"
Harley ran past the guy and slammed into the door to open it.
"Hey!"
Harley ran up the stairs and Peter dropped down. He shot webs at the door and they heard people slamming and yelling on the other side. Peter ran up to Harley and pushed him forward.
"Go, go, go!"
The two ran up the stairs as fast as they could. Peter webbing any door they came across. Harley barged through the finally door and they were greeted with a soldiers at the top.
"They're here!"
Peter grabbed Harley's arm and dragged him away just as they started shooting at them. They ran until they reached an edge.
They turned around but stopped when they found themselves surrounded. Peter stood in front of Harley.
"Peter." Harley looked over his shoulder. It was a long drop and there was a low chance of survival.
"Nowhere to run, kid. Time to give up, maybe we'll let the other one live." The soldier said and took a step forward.
"Karen, activate Droney high up."
Peter took out Droney and held it in his hand.
"Okay, wait, what's that?" Peter pointed behind them. The soldiers turned to look. Peter took the moment of distracted and took Harley and the two jumped. Peter attached Droney to Harley's back.
"Karen, activate the parachute!" Peter shot a web to the building wall and swung himself to a window. The glass shattered and Peter landed inside. He quickly got up and looked out the window. However, by the time he did, Harley was nowhere in sight.
"There!" Peter turned and saw a group of soldiers were running up to him. Taking one last look outside, Peter ran off.
