Chapter 42: Cages of Cold
Peter had jumped up into a vent, losing the soldiers that were chasing him. Peter kept crawling. He already lost a lot of time and he didn't know how much time he had left. What scared Peter most was the fact that he might not have any more time. Peter shook the thoughts out. He had to believe that they were still alive. He was pretty sure he'd know if Ross fired the weapon. Right?
"What do you mean he got away!?" Peter halted. He recognized Ross' voice. "You know what, it doesn't matter. We'll eliminate those already here. Once we recapture him, he'll find out what he's done."
Peter heard Ross walking away. "Karen, track Ross."
"On it."
Karen focused the thermal vision on Ross and Peter was able to follow him from in the vents. Peter ran into a vent opening and he could see Ross walking down the stairs. Deciding that following him on foot would be easier, Peter quietly opened the vent and dropped down to his signature pose. Peter got up and walked down. He peered over the railing and saw Ross was a couple of flights down.
After a while of walking down the stairs, Peter heard a door open. He peered over the railing and didn't see Ross anywhere. Rushing down the last few flights, he stopped at the last door.
"Is he through here?" Peter asked Karen.
"Yes." Was her reply.
Peter opened the door and poked his head through. He looked around and saw no one around. He crept in. He was in an eerie hallway, the few lights on the ceiling flickered on and off from time to time.
"Alright, where are you?" Peter whispered to himself.
He warily made his way down the hall. Listening for anything or anyone. That's when something caught his eye. Underneath a door, was a faint purple light. Curiosity getting the best of him, Peter opened the door. He slipped in and quietly closed it behind him.
Peter found himself in a dark room. The only light source was the glowing purple stone. Peter immediately noticing it was the power stone. He then observed the rest of the room. He spotted a large device in the center of the room. From closer inspection, Peter realized that it was a very large canon.
He followed the length of the barrel to find that part of it was sticking out the massive window. Walking up to the window, Peter casted his eyes on a single chair in the center of the circular room. Dread filled Peter. Knowing what he just found.
"Okay, well, the stone's still there, so that has to mean they haven't used it, right?" Peter asked no one.
'Who knows, maybe your too late and they've already used it.'
'Or maybe you still have time.'
"Okay, uh, Karen? Are we close?"
Karen zoomed Peter's lens and focused on the gate that was in the circular room. "Through that door, it will lead you to the prison where the Avengers are being held."
Peter let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. He was close. So close. All he needed to do was get to them. Peter slipped out of the room and back into the hallway. He ran down, the only sounds were his feet hitting the floors. Peter's spidey-senses went off and he heard a faint voice from around the corner.
Two soldiers turned the corner and kept walking. Peter let out a sigh from his spot on the ceiling. Continuing his journey upside down, Peter went down the hall those two soldiers came from.
Peter came across the end of the hallway, a door waiting for him. Peter flipped down and walked up to the door. He held the handle and took a breath. He opened the door and cautiously walked in. He looked around. The prison was a rectangle in shape. Prison cells lining the wall. Despite the place being heated, it felt cold and distant. As if life was drained from it. Walking around, the first person he saw was Wanda.
"Wanda!" Peter ran up to her. Wanda snapped her head up and sighed in relief when she saw him.
"Peter, I-" Wanda's voice came out in disbelief, not really believing that he was actually there. "When they said you escaped, we didn't know what to believe."
"We?"
"Wanda? Who are you talking too?" Sam's voice came through. Peter walked to the cell next to her and stopped to see Sam and Bucky in the same cell. "Holy!? No way, is it actually you, kid?"
"Yeah, it is." Peter observed the cell. "Can you not break out?"
Sam shook his head. "They have metal arm in some sort of sedative. Same with all the enhanced fellows. They're conscious but it drained all their energy. Plus, we've been told that these have been made from stolen vibranium."
"Okay, uh, is everyone here?"
"Yeah, people have either been paired or in their own cell."
"Kid? Is that you?"
"Tony?" Peter called out.
"You're actually here? Are you okay?" Peter saw Tony across from Sam and Bucky's cell, sharing a cell with Steve. He ran up to him and stopped until he was standing in front of the man. He took his mask off.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Are you guys okay?" Tony nodded and Peter heard affirmation from everyone else.
Peter saw to the left of Tony and Steve was Groot and Rocket and to their left was Gamora and Quill. He then spotted Mantis and Drax to the right of the space couple. Natasha and Clint were in a cell beside Sam and Bucky. On the opposite side of the door was another cell that held Bruce and Thor and Rhodey was in his own cell.
"Do you know how I can open these cage doors?" Peter asked.
"He controlled them with a remote. Plus, these bars have been spiked with electricity." Tony told him.
"Trust me, we've tried." Quill called out.
"So, the only chance of getting you out is with the remote? Great." Peter said sarcastically. "He must have left it somewhere here." Peter looked around to see if he could have placed it somewhere but there wasn't a single place he could.
"Looking for this?"

I honestly did not know how to get where I wanted. This chapter is a little rushed so sorry about that. Sorry if the reunion was underwhelming. There will be a right time for a better one, right now, they're on the choice of life and death.
