Chapter 53: Forgive You
Spider-Man swung around the city. It had been a week since his and MJ's confession. And if he's being honest, it's been the best and the most awkward week in his life. The funny part? His growing relationship with MJ is anything but awkward. His problem – like most of his recent problems – had to deal with the Avengers.
Now, don't get him wrong, he's thankful for everything they've done and for helping him fix the problem he caused. Yet, he can't seem to understand if they still want him around or not. Sure, they've sort of stated that he was welcome to hang out with them, but recently, it felt like everyone was drifting away from him. Don't get him wrong, he knows they have other important things to take care of, but recently, it feels like they don't want him around. It was subtle at first, but eventually he had noticed. No longer being asked to play Mario Cart, he'd find Shuri and Harley laughing in the labs – and they looked so content without him, he was no longer invited to eat with them. But after everything, he can't really blame them for wanting to get rid of him.
Landing on a building, Peter scanned the area. He let out a sigh behind the mask. Crime had been low – thankfully – and didn't spike up while he was gone dealing with Hydra with the Avengers – it was moments like this where he really needs to appreciate other vigilantes (like the Defenders) more often.
"There is a distress signal coming on your left." Karen's voice spoke. Without responding, Peter was already on his way. Arriving on site, Peter noticed it was a burglary in a small corner store. Landing in front of the store, Peter casually strolled in. Stifling a laugh behind his mask as the two burglars whipped their heads in his direction at the sound of the bell. Even behind their own mask, Peter could see their eyes widen at the sight of him.
Peter made quick work of the two and by the time he heard the sirens, the criminals were webbed together, one unconscious and the other groaning in pain. Peter gave the store clerk a two-finger salute before swinging out into the street.
He was about to swing away from the scene but he halted when a familiar voice called out to him.
"Hey! Spider-Man!"
Landing on the side of the building, Peter turned his head to see Bucky and Sam approaching. Flipping off the building, Peter landed in his signature pose before standing up.
"What's up?" He asked when the two came closer.
"We should be asking you that." Bucky responded. Peter raised an eyebrow, forgetting he had his mask on.
At his silence, Sam added, "What he meant was, we never see you around the tower anymore."
"Oh." Was Peter's smart reply. "Uh, you know. Busy." Peter waved his arms around.
"Uh huh." Sam said.
Sound of sirens grabbed Peter's attention. "Well, I've got to go. The terrible crime stoppers and I don't have the best relationship." Peter said, laughing awkwardly.
"...terrible crime stoppers?" Bucky slowly said at the say time as Sam's "What?"
Ignoring the questioning looks, Peter instead gave a small wave. "So, I'll catch you later!"
Peter swung off before the two could say anything else.
"We're expecting you at dinner! You better show up!" He heard Sam yell after him.
