Chapter 2: A Month Since Then

It's been a month since the four returned. A month since the stone was repaired. A month since Strange returned the stones and brought back Vision. A month since Peter fell into a coma state. A month since the world seemed to turn upside down and inside out for the avengers and for New York. For New York it's been a month since Spider-Man mysteriously disappeared and for the avengers, a month since they lost Peter.

If anyone entered the penthouse, they'd be able to feel the grey gloomy atmosphere right away. The avengers tried to go about their day as normal as possible. Although that task has found difficult when the only thing one your mind was how a teenager, practically a child, is in a coma.

Peter was like the rock. Wherever he went the mood seemed to be lifted slightly. His jokes and quips, his child like innocence, he was one of a kind. Even Sam couldn't deny that Peter had grown on him. The kid was just too likeable.

The kids adored Peter. He was full of fun and jokes. He could be all competitive when playing with Cooper or Groot (or even Clint, Sam or Scott) but yet he could be gentle and laid back when colouring with Morgan. Harley would be lying if he said Peter wasn't like a brother to him. Peter was one of the few who could keep up with Shuri's intelligence and meme wars.

Peter reminded Bucky and Steve of pre-serum Steve. Reckless, self-sacrificing idiot, and just wanting to make a difference in the world. Scott and Hope had grown a liking to Peter. Scott saying he's part of the bug buddies squad, no matter how many times Peter tells him that spiders are arachnids.

The guardians were all over the place. Quill was worried, Rocket was concerned, Groot was sad, Mantis was confused, Gamora looked on at Peter with interest and Drax... well Drax kept asking why he couldn't just wake up from this long slumber called coma.

Bruce was the one keeping track of Peter's vitals. He got asked the most on how's he doing and Bruce could only shake his head with a saddened expression. Thor was usually with his people but when he was over, he would always ask Bruce if Peter woke up yet. Heck, even Loki looked at Peter with some sort of interest.

Tony was probably the worst of them all. Tony has rarely left Peter's side. No one couldn't get him to leave, not even Pepper or Rhodey. Thankfully Morgan was able to get Tony to eat or sleep and even Harley was able to talk Tony out of drinking his problems away.

"Tony. We have to soon if he doesn't wake up." Bruce told Tony. "He hasn't had any major brain activity and his vitals hasn't changed. If he's really gone then we need to let him go." Bruce swallowed the lump in his throat. "Let him go to a better place."

"I just got him back Bruce!" Tony snapped. Anger and regret was reflected in his eyes, like a flame burning. He then looked down. "He didn't give up on me. Please. Just give him one more week."

Bruce sighed. "Alright." Bruce left the room. He was met with Steve walking towards him.

"How is he?" Steve asked.

"Still the same." Bruce answered. "One won't change and the other can't change if he doesn't change."

Steve nodded. It was true. Peter hasn't changed, stuck in a long slumber, and Tony can't change unless Peter shows some sign of life. The two men walk away, making their way to the penthouse.

"It's almost been a month Peter. Everyone's losing hope. Come on give us something. Anything. Morgan kept going on and on about a promise. And my Peter always keeps his promise." Tony says, choking on a sob. He takes Peter hand in his own. "No one wants to but Peter, if you don't give us something, you might be taken off of life support. Please Pete. Please come back."

It was silent, the only thing being heard was Peter's heartbeat and Tony's breathing which slowly went from heavy breathing to the speed of Peter's heart. Suddenly, ever so slightly, Tony felt the smallest squeeze. It was so small that Tony almost missed it. Almost.

"Peter?" Tony eyes widened. "Friday! Call in Bruce!"

"Tony what?" Bruce barged into the room.

"He moved Bruce. I felt his hand move."

Bruce hastily walked over to the computer. His eyes widened. "His brain activity changed."

"What does that mean?"

"Tony calm down. He can hear you."

"What?"

"His brain activity shows that he's processing his surroundings." Bruce smiles. "He's waking up Tony."

~~~~~
When did it become so hard to wake up? That was Peter's first thought. There were voices all around him. There was one voice that stood out to Peter. It was muffled yet he could hear it begging. Begging? What happened? Peter tried to force his eyes opened but the stubborn bastards wouldn't budge. Suddenly, Peter felt someone grabbed his hand. The voice spoke up again but this time much closer.
"Please." Was the only thing Peter caught before the voice became muffled again. Trying his hardest to feel his fingers, Peter desperately tried to give this person comfort. Show them that he's still here. Peter felt his fingers move ever so slightly. Groaning internally Peter gave up. Why is it so hard to control his own body?
'Reminds me of that time. Where you had no control over your own soul.' A voice said.
'Shut up.' Peter sighed.
Giving this one more try, Peter forced his eyes to open.
"Peter?"
