Chapter 32: Device
Tony and Shuri walked into the room where everyone else were already eating dinner. They had stayed in the labs all day trying to figure out how to design the machine. It wasn't until FRIDAY threatened that she'd contact Pepper did the two actually leave to eat dinner.
"Did you find anything?" Steve asked as the two sat down.
"Nope." Shuri answered, popping the 'p'.
"What do you guys have so far?"
"The machine Hydra used wasn't a tracker, it was a luring device. They copied an energy source to lure them in." Tony said.
"And this matters how?" Sam asked.
"Well, we don't need a luring device. We need a tracker. We're still figuring out how to change it into one." Tony said.
"You could mick the satellite wavelength to create the tracker." As the words left his lips, all eyes turned to Peter. "You could use the stones as the "satellite" and track a similar energy source is."
"Would that work?" Harley asked.
"Well, theoretically, it should. I'm pretty sure their aura would be similar to the stones' power. If the tracker can track a similar energy source..."
"Then we'll be able to locate where they are." Shuri finished Peter's thought.
Tony gave a thoughtful look. "It's worth a shot."
"Man, we should have had you in the labs with us instead of looking through those files!" Shuri exclaimed.
"Did you find anything in those by the way?" Steve asked Peter.
Peter shook his head. "Nothing that helps us make the machine."
"But?" Wanda tilted her head slightly.
"But... there's something that might link to the prophecy, riddle thing."
"What'd you find, Underoos?"
Peter stared at the food in front of him. "Missing pieces found in cages of cold. Hydra has this cell that keeps people in a certain state. A cylinder cage that can be filled with a liquid to keep people unconscious, or can freeze someone to preserve them for long periods of time."
"With our theory that missing pieces refers to the stone guardians, then cages of cold would make sense with what you just said." Natasha stated. Peter nodded.
"Anything else?" Sam asked.
'Why don't you add that this entire mission could lead to their deaths? Oh, and might as well add that this is your fault.'
'Don't listen to that dummy. You're doing the right thing.'
'Who you calling dummy!?'
'Uh, you. Apparently, you're just plain stupid.'
'Why you-'
"Peter?" Wanda's voice silenced the voices and Peter realized he hasn't answered.
"What? Oh, no. Nothing else."
'One day, you'll see that I've been right all along.'
~~~~~
Peter stared at the board with all their ideas written on it. Peter wasn't supposed to be up at the moment, but right now he could care less about sleep. I mean, sleeps for the weak, right? Peter looked over the blueprint for Hydra's machine, then to the blueprint of their own. It was a small cube, that had a placeholder on one of the sides. Then a screen on the top of the cube. Hopefully, when they build it and test it tomorrow, it'll work.
'This entire thing is your fault. They would be living in peace if you just left and delt with this yourself.'
'Peter, don't listen to this one.'
'I honestly don't get why you're here. If your job is to give him false hope then you're doing a really great job at it.'
'Sarcasm suits you.'
'Why thank you.'
If these two were actual human beings, Peter would bet that voice 2 (the nicer one) was rolling their eyes. Still, Peter still couldn't shake the feeling that maybe it would have been better to just handle this one himself. He's dealt with problems similar to this on his own before. So, why couldn't he do it now?
'Just because you've done things on your own before doesn't mean you have to do everything on by yourself. Sometimes you have to remind yourself that there are challenges that you don't need to face alone.'
'You are so inspirational.'
'Everything you need is already in front of you.'
"Is there a reason why you're always up at ungodly hours?" Turning around Peter saw Tony entering the labs, a cup of coffee in one hand and another mug in the other. "You better not be getting this from me. If you are, Pepper will have my head."
Peter scoffed. "Sorry, I guess I just couldn't sleep."
"Natasha's dancing lessons not tiring enough for you?"
"No. I mean, yes. There's just a lot going through my mind."
Tony hummed in understanding. He handed Peter the other mug, which had hot chocolate in it.
"Well, at least you didn't go out patrolling at this hour. Any earlier, you probably might have." Peter just nodded as he stared at the beverage in his mug. "Would it ease your mind if we started working on this?"
Peter looked up. "Huh? W-we don't need to. I can wait until morning. I just-"
"Nonsense." Tony cut him off. "Besides, I've already had coffee. There is absolutely no reality where I would be able to sleep right now. So, why not start this?" Peter hesitated. "We don't have to if you don't want to. I just thought it would be a sense of comfort knowing we're a step closer to finding them. We can go do something else, like watch a movie or-"
"No, it's fine." Peter smiled up Tony. "Can we work on this?"
Tony smiled softly. "Of course, kid. Let's just not work all night. I really don't want another Pepper lecture."
~~~~~
"Wait, hold on, what if we do this?" Peter read over the coding that they had inputted and changed a single line. He then reassembled the device and placed the soul stone in its holder. The screen lit up and both Tony and Peter stared at it with wide eyes. Peter let out a sound of disbelief.
"Shit." Tony said, a smile on his lips as he looked at Peter with proud eyes.
"Shit." A smaller voice came. The two turned and saw Morgan standing by the door.
"Morgan!? What are you doing up at..." Peter turned to the clock, "... at 8:30 in the morning? Crap."
"Shit."
Tony smirked and bent down to pick up the small girl. "Now, what did I saw about that word? That's mommy's word."
Morgan giggled. "Mommy sent me to come get you. It's time for breakfast and Wanda made pancakes!"
"Did Vision help her?" Tony made a face.
"I don't know." Morgan frowned. Then she smiled. "He did set the table!"
"Well then we can't let those pancakes get cold." Peter said. Morgan shook her head and wiggled her way out of Tony's hold. The minute Tony let her down, she took off. Peter took off after her, yelling something along the lines of 'Better get your pancakes fast or the pancake monster will come get it!' followed by Morgan's shriek of laughter. Tony shook his head and laughed to himself.
"FRIDAY save and turn everything off." Tony ordered before following after his children.

How do you feel about chapter 32? So, now that there's two voices (I guess) I made their dialogue different (Because it was getting confusing on who was speaking, I was also getting confused as I was writing). Anyway, non-italicized is the original voice (the meaner one) and the italicized is the nicer one. Bold is both talking.
Anyway Byeee!
