Chapter 19: Caught
"Not going to answer huh? That's fine. We'll just take you." The man made a signal and the others started to advance.
Peter's eyes darted around. He was surround and couldn't escape. He couldn't swing away cause his arm was bleeding out. Peter looked around trying to find an opening but couldn't find one. Peter pressed his back to the tree behind him. Although before the soldiers could shoot at him, someone came and an orange flash stopped them. When it faded, Abby was standing there in front of him.
"Are you crazy?" Peter asked.
"Yes."
"Spider-Man! Do you copy!" He heard Steve asked again.
"I swear to god, if you don't respond kid, I will-" Peter cut Tony off.
"I'm here, but back-up would be nice. Abby's here by the way."
"We're on our way kid. Hang tight." Quill informed before the comms went silent again.
Peter webbed up his wound, in hopes that it would heal faster. Thankfully, the bullet went straight through his arm, so he didn't need to worry about a bullet inside him if his wound does close. Peter helped Abby fight as best as he could with one injured arm. Peter started running on adrenaline and the pain in his arm was barely noticeable.
"Okay twerps, back the hell up." Peter turned and saw Rocket, Quill and Tony flying towards him.
"Finally!" Peter yelled out.
"Hey! We didn't take that long." Quill retorted.
"Yeah, sure."
Tony then blasted the soldiers, forcing them to scatter. "Less bickering and more shooting."
Peter flipped away and shot a web at a tree branch. He then swung and used the momentum to kick one of the soldiers in the face. Abby grabbed a guy and flung him into the sky. As the guy fell, he got caught in a tree. Quill and Rocket were blasting with no target in mind.
"Scott, Hope, you almost out of there?" Steve asked in the comms.
"Yeah, we're almost out." Scott said.
Peter sighed in relied. However, that was short lived as a guy put him in a headlock. Peter tried to escape but a gun was pressed to his temple.
"Everyone, calm down!" The soldier yelled. With that the fight stopped.
"You let him go right now or I'll-" Tony started.
"Or you'll what? The only thing you're going to do is stay back and let us take this guy and her to where they belong."
"Like we'll ever let that happen." Quill growled.
"Tony! What's happening?" Peter heard Rhodey ask.
"This buffoon has the kid and is threatening to kill him." Rocket said.
"Back-up is on the way!" Sam answered.
"Now, where's the girl?" The soldier asked.
Peter looked around. In the shadows, in the trees, he saw a her. Hiding and waiting for the right moment to strike. Like a predator watching its prey. Peter looked away, hoping he didn't draw any attention to her.
"Where's the girl!?" The soldier yelled out, pressing the gun deeper into Peter's head.
"We don't know okay!? We didn't even know she existed until yesterday." Tony said, eyeing the gun.
"Well that's unfortunate. Isn't it?" Peter heard him pull down the safety of the gun. "Well, unfortunate for him at least."
Peter shut his eyes and waited for his death. He waited for a moment but it never came. Instead what came was something fly by his head. The pressure of the gun was removed from his temple and Peter was pushed to the ground. However, there was a gunshot sound followed by a sharp pain in his abdomen.
Peter flipped over onto his back and opened his eyes. He saw Abby fighting the soldier who was behind him. Black spots were clouding his vision. Tony appeared in front of him. Peter ignored what he was saying and looked past him. That's when he saw Abby get caught in a net. Quill and Rocket tried to free her but more soldiers blocked their path. The last thing Peter was Abby being taken away.

It was dark and it was cold. Everything was black, which felt different to the usual orange he had grown used to. Peter felt numb and his memory was hazy. What had happened? He couldn't remember. The place looked familiar but he couldn't place his finger on it. Suddenly there was a bright white light.
"Oh Pete. Why are you back here?" A familiar voice came. The light faded and the person standing there brought tears to Peter's eyes.
"May?" Peter whimpered.
"Come here Peter." May opened her arms out, inviting him for a hug. Peter didn't hesitate to wrap his arms around her.
"I'm sorry." The memories now flooding in.
May pulled away and wiped a tear from Peter's cheek, "You have nothing to be sorry for."
"But I do! I've failed everything! Now Hydra's going to get the infinity stones and... and... and I've ruined everything. I lost her, I lost Ben and I lost you. I lost everything."
"Peter, look at me." May lifted Peter's chin up so he would look at her in the eyes. She smiled softly. "You did the right thing. I was already dying. You picked the right thing to do. Sacrificing me for a father, a brother, a friend and a lover."
"Then why does it feel like there's a piece missing? Why does it feel like I just lost the biggest battle? It feels like someone ripped my heart out and tore it in front of me."
"And you're going to feel that way for a while. It's only going to get worse if you don't let it out." May brought Peter in for another hug. "I know it's hard, but you didn't lose everything. Everything you need is already in front of you."
Peter felt himself drift away. He held onto May even tighter. Hoping, wishing, praying that he didn't have to let go.
"I'm still here. Even if you can't see me. I'm still here."
