Chapter 43: I am Your Father

"Looking for this?" Peter turned and saw Ross walking in, waving the remote in his hand. He lowered it. "Thought we wouldn't find you?"

Peter tightened his grip on his mask. He kept his mouth shut, his eyes not leaving Ross'.

"What? Cat got your tongue?"

Peter eyed the remote in his hand then looked back at Ross. "No."

"What happened to all the comebacks? You didn't seem to hesitate when you were strapped into a chair being electrocuted and stabbed." Peter tensed and Ross smirked.

"You did what!?" Almost everyone yelled out.

"I swear, I didn't think my patience with you could go down any more, but you really like proving me wrong." Tony growled out.

Ross ignored them. "What are you doing, Spider? Why are you here? Do you know? There's a piece of you that's missing. You aren't fully embracing it. Peter, you aren't like any others. A piece of the puzzle that's missing in your life." Ross paused. "You're smart, so tell me, what's the final piece?"

"If this is your way of getting me to join Hydra, you're doing a real bad job at it." Peter stated.

"Am I? I see those gears turning in your head, Peter. You want to know how? Because you're just like your father."

Peter's breath hitched. For a second, his walls came down and you could see the pain, the fear, the disbelief in him. Peter blinked and just like that, the walls were back up. "My father's dead."

"Oh no! He's very much alive." Ross stated. "He's actually here. You know that weapon you saw? He made that. Your father made that."

"My father is dead!" Peter yelled. "I don't know what you're talking about."

"If he was dead, then who's this?" Ross moved out of the way and the door opened. A man walked in. Peter's face paled. Ross smirked. "Still don't believe me?"

"Peter..." The man took a step forward.

"No, no, you're close enough." Peter stated, taking a step back.

The Avengers looked between the two. No doubt about it, the two were related. It was uncanny, the two looked so much alike. So much to the point where one was just a younger version of the other.

"Peter, I know it's hard to believe, but it's me. It's me, Pete."

Peter shook his head. "My father died 10 years ago. I don't know you."

"I don't know how to explain this, I thought I did, but I don't. All I can say is I'm sorry." The man apologized.

"Sorry doesn't make up anything!" Peter yelled with so much pain and hatred that it caught everyone off guard. "Sorry doesn't make up for the abandonment! Sorry doesn't make up for the absence! Sorry doesn't make up for this!"

"I know. Believe me, I know. I just want to make up for lost time."

"You lost your chance to be called a father."

Peter could have sworn that there was a flash of hurt and guilt that went across his face but it was gone so fast that Peter wasn't sure. He was about to respond when the doors opened and about ten soldiers barged in and started shooting. Peter backflipped and dodged multiple bullets. However, one hit him in the leg. Peter fell yelled out as pain shot up through his body. One held a gun right in front of Peter's face.

"Peter!" Tony's voice drowned everyone else's yelling.

"Should have just joined us when you were given the choice." Ross states. "Oh well, you've had your chance."

Suddenly, there was a yellow laser that was cutting through the wall in Bruce and Thor's cell. Taking advantage of the distraction, Peter rolled out of the way of the gun and webbed the guy's face. He then shot a web and caught the remote from Ross' hand. Before he could react, Peter yanked it out of his hand and into his own. He then shot a web Ross' hand that had grabbed the handle of the door.

"Peter-" His so-called father, tried to reach out for him but Peter back away.

Peter pressed the button and the cage's lifted. Thor and Bruce moved just in time as the wall came crashing down. The dust cleared and walked in was Shuri and T'Challa. Floating behind them was Vision.

Shuri fired at the soldiers using her gauntlets and T'Challa had engaged with a hand-to-hand combat with multiple soldiers. Vision had fired lasers at a few, forcing them to scatter.

"The ship is right outside! Go! We'll cover for you!" T'Challa called out. Everyone started running for the hole that Vision had created.

"Hey, kid." Peter found Tony by his side. "Come on, let's get out of here."

Tony helped Peter up and the two made it out. Wanda helped Peter and Tony up into the ship. Shuri appeared in the ship a second later followed by T'Challa. Vision came in after making part of the ceiling collapse, stopping them from following.

"Wait, who's manning the ship?" Clint asked as he found a backup bow and arrow.

"I am." Came Harley's voice and Peter sighed in relief knowing that he made it and found help.

"Kid, do you even know how to fly?" Sam asked.

"Nope, but I got it here no problem so I must be doing something right." He called back. Clint disappeared to the cockpit to help him fly.

"Where are we going!?" Clint asked.

"Find a place we can regroup; we need a course of action and stop Hydra once and for all." Steve ordered.

"Roger that!"
