24 Hours

Chapter 7: 24 Hours

Peter was inside the lab in the tower alone. It's only been 24 hours since Matt got CPS of his back. 24 hours since he found out that Ross was looking for Spider-Man and 24 hours since he's done anything other than work in the lab. Once Peter got into the tower yesterday, he made a beeline to the lab and refused to come out.

"If I didn't know any better, I would have thought you lost track of time." Tony's voice was heard.

"Hmm." Peter hummed, not turning around to face his mentor.

"Haven't seen you all day. Were you in here the entire time?"

"Hmm. Sure."

"What are you doing?"

"Yup."

Tony raised an eyebrow. He walked over to Peter who had his eyes glued to the computer screen. Peering over his shoulder, Tony saw Peter looking through the Sokovia Accords database. Which is supposed to be under government surveillance.

"Did you hack into the government's system?" Tony asked.

"What?" Peter turned and jumped when he saw Tony. "Holy shit! M-Mr St-Stark! I didn't see you! Um.."

"Woah, calm down kid. Why are you looking at the uh... Accords?"

"I, uh, I was just wondering what happened and um... how it affects me."

"Affects you?"

"Well uh... yeah." Peter scratched the back of his neck.

"What happened?"

"What?"

"Something happened that caused you to break into government information and see the Accords." Tony looked at Peter expectantly. "Well?"

"I was on patrol yesterday and someone shot a tranquilizer dart at me."

"What!? Hold up, you weren't out on a patrol yesterday."

"I went out at like one in the morning."

"Of course of you did."

"Anyway I had Karen send Droney out and I found some guys. One of them was on the phone and uh... he said the name Ross and it reminded me of the guy you said who made the Accords. What's his name? Jonathan.. no. Markus? No. Uh, Theo? No that not it..."

"Thaddeus Ross." Tony said in a dark voice.

"Yeah! Him. Wait, where are you going?" Peter asked when Tony made his way out of the lab.

"Have a chat with dear old Thaddeus."

With that Tony left, leaving Peter alone in the lab once again.

'Should I start planning the funeral?'

"What!? No!"

'Your no fun.'

"Just shut up will you."

Fortunately for Tony, Ross had made a meeting today. Tony walked into the conference room. The only people attending were the people who were involved in what people dubbed 'The Civil War'. Minus Peter of course. Tony was expecting Ross to already be there but to his surprise the guy was nowhere to be seen.

"What's gotten you so worked up?" Natasha asked.

"Where's the Devil?" Tony asked.

"I'd watch your tone Stark." Ross entered the room and took his spot at the head of the table.

"I won't have to watch my tone if you didn't attack Spider-Man the other day." This gained everyone's attention.

"He what?" Steve asked, standing up.

"Ross here sent so men to capture him last night. When he was out on patrol."

"Yes, the Spider is a topic that needs to be addressed."

"He's a person not a thing." Wanda glared, not liking people being treated like an object.

"He's a menace that needs to be contained."

"He's done nothing wrong." Steve said.

"He hasn't signed the accords therefore he's a wanted criminal. Speaking of which, where is the Spider."

"He won't be attending." Tony said standing his ground.

"Not only does he need to sign it but so do the others you helped defeat Thanos."

"No ones signing any of this." Tony said motioning at the papers Ross had in front of him.

"We won't be signing unless there has been a change in those accords." Steve said. "Until then, this meeting is over."

Ross packed and before making his exit he said. "Oh and Captain, you will be signing these accords one way or another."

"Friday alert me when Ross has left the building." Tony said.

"Of course." After a minute or two Friday added. "He's gone Boss."

"How'd you know all this Tony?" Steve asked.

"I found Peter in the lab looking at the government's database. More specifically, he was looking at the Sokovia Accords. When I asked him why, he told me Ross sent out his men to capture him via tranquilizer dart."

"We'll have to find a way to change the Accords. I don't want to drag in the Guardians, Strange or anyone else. Especially Peter." Steve said. Everyone nodded, agreeing with Steve.

"Until then, what?" Sam asked.

"Lay low, until we put the accords through court to change it, Ross still has power and can technically have anyone of us arrested. When the accords are under evaluation, Ross will lose the power."

"So until then we can't do anything?" Clint said.

"We can continue with helping the debris but no fighting or stepping out of lines. Got it?" Steve ordered.

Words of agreement rung through the air.

"Good."
