Your first week teaching at Beacon Hills had been harder than you thought. Mostly because your friends' younger siblings were among your students and seemed to think they could riot in your class.

It also didn't help that Stiles would zone off in the middle of your classes and on several occasions Scott had simply shot out of his seat and run off. You were finally on your lunch break. You had just popped the list of your lunch, balancing some files to look through in one hand when someone knocked on the door. "Derek?" You asked as you looked up to find him lurking in the doorway.

"I'm looking for Stiles."

"Why do you want Stiles?"

"An emergency."

"What kind of emergency?" You asked quickly. You reluctantly put the lid back on your lunch and stood up, walking over to him.

"Urm. the kind of emergency that we would have had... when we were at school." He said slowly. He jumped when you slapped him several times with the folder.

"Derek Hale! Are you trying to get my brother involved with werewolves?" You hissed at him.

"Trying? No. He sort of just stumbles onto things even when you don't want him to." Derek mused.

"Well... I have thirty minutes. Can I help you instead?" You asked. He stared at you for a moment. A hard stare that made you wonder if werewolves could see into the future or not.

"Fine." he answered and turned to leave. With a groan you dumped your files on your desk and grabbed at your lunch and your bag. Hoping you'd get the chance to eat.

"Stiles! I was just about to come and see you. Is everything ok?" Scott asked as Stiles came into his room. His friend flopped down on the floor and didn't say anything. "Stiles."

Scott swallowed when his friend looked up at him with teary eyes. He rubbed his cheeks with the flat of his hands.

"I asked Derek to bite her." The words hung in the air. They seemed to steal all other words and they boys had to sit in it until one of them broke the quiet. "He did it."

"Was it bad?" Scott asked and Stiles sniffed.

"Dad got the call. About the car. The hunters were gone by the time he got there. Your Mom said she was almost gone when they got her to the hospital." Stiles explained as he started to fidget.

"Derek bit her. So she'll be fine." Scott said. His voice wavered but he tried to sound strong and determined.

"She's on the older side for being bitten. Derek said the ninety percent success rate lowers the older that you get." Stiles mumbled as he started running his hands over his legs and arms. "I don't know why she went with him in the first place."

"They knew each other. They went to school together so... I bet. Maybe they were just going for lunch or something? Didn't Derek say?" Scott asked quickly.

"No. He was too busy telling dad what happened. Someone blocked out all the cameras on that road and then ran them off the road."

"Scott?" Melissa called as she hurried inside. "Is Stiles with you?"

"Yeah Mom! He's here with me." Scott called back.

"That's good. I'll call your dad and let him know you're here. I said you could stay here so your dad can stay at the hospital with your sister." Melissa said kinfly. Stiles tried to smile but Melissa hurried over to give him a gentle hug and when she gave him a squeeze he felt his eyes fill up. "She's improving. It's a little too miraculous." She said with a pointed tone and a look that made Scott a little nervous.

"That's good. That she's getting better." Scott said to Stiles.

"Yeah but I get a werewolf to bite her." Stiles said quietly.
"We'll help her. Besides it would be nice to have an adult werewolf who can help you with these things and... I suppose that's a good thing that's going to come out of this?" Melissa said. She was trying to be helpful. To make Stiles feel better. If she was honest she had caught Derek after he'd bitten (Y/N) and helped him get her through it. It looked painful and she worried that Scott had to go through something similar. All alone.

You'd been out of the hospital and pretending to recover from your injuries for a few weeks. You'd played along like Melissa asked so no one would wonder why you'd suddenly healed. Since you've managed to stay conscious through the day, you hadn't seen Derek. Which was making your nerves fray as you realised the full moon was coming up. As soon as it got dark you started to sneak outside. Stiles had fallen asleep in the hall, right outside your door. Carefully, you picked him up, setting him in your bed. Your new found strength is still a marvel to you.

As soon as you got outside you realised Derek had parked a little way up the road in his new car. Hurrying, you grabbed the door handle before he could drive away and got inside. You took a deep nervous breath for a moment before saying. "You bit me and then abandoned me. Aren't there rules against that?"

"We don't really have rules anymore." Derek muttered as he gripped the steering wheel and stared ahead.

"Why do you smell like that?" You asked and you could see the way Derek chuckled to himself and smiled.

"I don't smell like anything."

"No. You smell like the woods and something else. It smells good." You insisted. He finally looked at you as you leant closer to him and sniffed.

"It's just a werewolf thing."

"It isn't it's a you thing. Scott and the other werewolves that he hangs around with don't smell like that." You said with frustration he sighed and looked away again.

"Fine. It's a me thing. A you and me thing." He glanced at you when you didn't say anything but you stared at him intently.

"Are you going to help me with the full moon?" You asked and he sighed.

"No. Peter is going to help you."

"Peter? Your creepy uncle Peter... no offence." You said with a crinkled nose. You sniffed at Derek again and he gave you a disapproving look.

"It's fine. He is a bit of a creep sometimes. I can't help you with the full moon."

"Because you smell... weird?" You asked and it seemed to be logical to you. Derek gave you a long look before sighing.

"Because you might be my mate. That's what that smell is. That's why you managed to get in a car without freaking out when you just had a car accident." Derek explained and you stared at him this time. "If I am your mate... being together on the full moon is a very bad idea." He explained and drummed his fingers on the steering wheel.

"So what're we going to do about it?" You asked and he shrugged.

"You're going to have to let Peter and Deaton into your house tonight. Stiles is on watch so he should be calling them to come and help."

"What about after."

"I'll show you how to get back to normal. You'll be able to go back to teaching and everything will be normal. Just you can grow claws now." Derek said quickly. He looked back at you for a moment and smiled. His smile fell when Peter knocked on the window.
