Derek had called you on Christmas morning and asked you to come over. You were a little worried and as far as you'd known everyone was busy so it must have been an emergency. Hurrying to get your winter shoes and coat on you hurried out of the house.

There was a thin layer of snow over the ground which crunched satisfyingly underfoot. You could see people getting up and excitedly gathering around the tree as you walked. It didn't take you long to get to Derek's. You hurried up to the sliding doors of his apartment. It was unusually warm inside the stairwell and it got warmer as you got closer to the door.

"Hey!" Derek said cheerfully as he opened the door.

When he led you inside your jaw dropped. There was now laminate floor down. Tinsel and decorations, lights and rugs with snowflakes and reindeer on them were everywhere. There was a TV and a coffee table over by his couch.

"Woah." You said in awe.

"I urm. I knew you were spending the holidays alone so... I made a two person holiday. There's food in the oven. I've got loads of drinks and movies. I got some gifts for you and the other left yours here. I even got some things for myself and wrapped them." He laughed at the last thing he said and gestured for you to come in. He took your coat and left them by the door, hurrying off out of sight and coming back with a pair of warm slippers.

"This place looks so different!" You said you're still overwhelmed.

"Yeah. I wanted to make it memorable." Derek said quickly.

"Oh. It's memorable." You said cheerfully. Derek smiled and nodded with relief.

"Glad you like it. I'm not sure what you would usually do." Derek muttered. The oven beeper went off and hurried to the kitchen. "But I have a special breakfast ready for you.Take a seat on the sofa and I'll bring it over."

"Why did you go through all this trouble just for me?" You asked him as he started plating food up and you took a seat on the sofa.

"Christmas is doing a little something extra for someone." He answered simply.
