Request: Anonymous asked:#valentine2023 "I knew I loved you before I met you." For Derek Hale please!

"How do I know if I'm in love though? What if they're not the one." Malia asked as you stared into the oven. You were on your fourth heart-shaped cake. After several mishaps, you were hoping that this was the last one.

The first had been eaten by Scott and Stiles while they looked through Derek's books. Despite their instance that they hadn't realised it was for valentines day, you weren't sure how they missed the shape of the cake, the strawberries neatly cut into a heart shape and laid around the top of the cake like a border or the neat red piping that said happy valentine on it. The second had been an accident. You were certain of that one. You'd tried a new chocolate fudge icing and Lydia had helped put it in the fridge but the cake had been too hot and the icing melted causing the layers to slop off sideway and fall off the cake stand you were using.

Peter had taken the third. He'd left fifteen dollars on the side and a note that said 'Thanks for the minimum effort lay.' According to the text he sent Derek later on that day he had 'pulled' a date and planned to stay with her so he wouldn't be seen for several days.

This one seemed to still be liquid in the middle and was starting to catch on the edges. You were watching carefully to find the perfect moment to take it out of the oven.

"It's just one of those things you kind of know in the moment." You muttered too focused on what you were doing to stop Malia from eating a spoonful of chocolate icing. "It's not like you get a warning."

"I knew I loved you before I met you." Derek said suddenly. He had a bag of items in one hand that he moved behind himself to avoid you seeing in them.

"You did not. You're just telling a silly story." You said as you took the spoon from Malia before she could eat more of the icing.

"I did too! I knew when we met that I knew you and we were going to be together." He insisted. You wanted to tease him a little but Malia spoke before you could.

"Cakes burning." She said as she stole a strawberry. You turned away from Derek and hurried to get the cake out of the oven before it was unsalvagable.
