"Have either of you seen (Y/N) recently?" Deaton asked as Scott and Stiles started to leave.

"No? Why?" Scott asked.

"Maybe Derek ate her, she does ruffle his... I want to say fur coat but that brings a weird image in my head and..."

"She's been gone a few days. It's not like her." Deaton interrupted Stiles and sighed, glancing around as he finished tidying up.

"I thought you didn't like her?" Stiles asked curiously.

"I think the way she plays with werewolves is... dangerous."

"I dunno Derek seems into it." Stiles said and spluttered when Scott gave him a look. "He gets all, you know... into it." He said and shimmied his shoulders as he spoke. Scott started laughing, looking back at Deaton who was shaking his head and trying to look disapprovingly at Stiles though he couldn't help chuckle.

"We'll keep an eye out. But what is... what's their deal?"

"Why're they so obviously into each other?"

"(Y/N) is rare and she's always had a rivalry with Derek. They both come from packs that... well."

"We're horrifically murdered by asshole hunters who magically got away with it? Dicks! The hunters not them." Stiles finished for Deaton who agreed. He shooed the boys out of the vets and started to lock up.

"What do you think he meant? That (Y/N) is rare." Scott asked Stiles as they headed to his Jeep.

"Maybe she... is a ghost.... Or a mutated werewolf that can rip Derek in half and he's kinda scareoused by her!" Stiles offered, looking a little to into that idea for Scott's comfort.

"Do you think we should ask Derek if we've seen her? Deaton did say she was born in a pack... maybe something happened." Scott muttered. He didn't get a response from Stiles but as they started to pass Derek's penthouse Stiles pulled into the parking lot.

"It can't hurt to tell him... right?"

The boys climbed up the stairs until they reached the door which was pulled open. Isaac looked at them with a smirk on his face as he leant in the doorway. The boys looked at each other before Stiles slowly asked.

"What's up Isaac... where's Derek?" Isaac rolled his eyes but led the way to where Derek was leaning on the small metal table at the edge of the room, reading. "Do you think he knows what chairs are?" Stiles whispered to Scott. The two of them snickered at his joke until Derek looked at them and they both fell silent.

"We were wondering if you'd seen (Y/N). Deaton hasn't seen her for a while." Scott muttered awkwardly.

"How long is a while? She's like a wild cat. Turns up, gets what she wants and leaves." Derek said as he closed his book and pushed himself up from the table.

"Deaton said a few days. He seemed worried about her." Stiles answered.

"Maybe she finally left!" Isaac said in sarcastic happiness.

"I'll let Deaton know if she turns up." Derek said to the boys who both nodded.

****************

"Why're we going through the woods?" Isaac called to Derek who had gone on ahead. He knew why they were there. Derek wouldn't say he was looking for you but he'd heard Peter on the phone, asking if he'd seen you.

"Do you hear that?" Derek asked as he crouched down, inspecting a footprint in the soft dirt at the base of a tree.

"I don't hear any..." Isaac trailed off as he heard faint grunting. Glancing at Derek who looked concerned he got ready to run. Derek bolted off and pushed through the trees. He paused when he saw you, trapped in a circle of mountain ash dust. Everynow and then you ran as fast as you could in the tight space, slamming against the magic wall and bouncing back into it.

"Oh great! Mr wolf." You grumbled sarcastically.

"(Y/N) are you ok?"
"Peachy keen, Derek." You snapped, slamming into the barrier again.

"Go get Deaton, tell him to call Chris and Stiles' dad." Derek muttered to Isaac who sighed and rolled his eyes.

"Oh, I so do not need our help! Yes, I'm stuck in mountain ash and yes, I stepped in a wolf trap, but I don't need your help!" you gestured to your leg which was stuck in a loop on a long cord.

"So am I going or not? I can go either way on letting her out so...." Issac asked as he leant against a nearby tree. Derek glared at him so he shrugged and rolled off the tree and started leaving.

Derek crouched down as he rummaged through the dirt to find the end of the cord around your leg. Realising you'd have to give up eventually you dropped to the floor, crossing your legs the best you could while watching him.

"Bet it feels good to be an alpha." Derek didn't answer you as he continued to search. "Having all your little minions running around for you."

"They're not my minions." He grumbled as he felt something and started pulling at it.

"Right they're little kids that you tricked into turning. You know the little blond one is a pest. Cute though."

"I didn't trick them, I asked them."

"Did you use Peter's old, the bite is a gift line?" You giggled at him when he didn't answer. He frowned up at you and you rolled your eyes.

"I can't help you if you're going to distract me. I could hurt you." Derek complained. Just as he snatched at the cord you yanked yourself up to your feet and it pulled up out of the dirt.

"Oh that's right, Mr. Wolf. Save the day. I'm some pathetic little kid!" You growled and if you'd been able to your face would have shifted.

"I didn't mean..."

"Just don't talk to me!" You snapped and crossed your arms.

"Will you two stop bickering. If someone is hunting werewolves they'll spot the two of you immediately." Deaton scolded as he came in through the woods and hurried up to the mountain ash buried. As soon as he broke it you held out your ankle for the cord to be cut.

"Thank you Deaton." You huffed, glaring at Derek who rolled his eyes.

"You're welcome." he muttered sarcastically.

You turned and tackled Derek who went flying backwards. On instinct he tossed you away and you crashed through the trees. Flipping back over you threw yourself at him but Chris stepped between the two of you. "How about we finish this somewhere that isn't full of hunters that want to kill you?"

"I didn't think he was serious about her... being a rare werewolf." Stiles whispered to Scott who had followed in the Sheriff's cruiser.

"She didn't shift once." Scott whispered back.

"(Y/N) let's get you back. I'll get you checked up. We'll get you some food." Deaton offered.

"What was that about?" Stiles asked boldly when they left.

"I wasn't exactly the nicest when we were kids."

"Shocker." Stiles muttered and raised his eyebrows when Derek glared at him.

"She couldn't shift and before she was sixteen the werewolf powers hadn't kicked in. so you know. Little red. Running around with a bunch of werewolves." Derek answered.

"Derek! Dick move!" Stiles gasped in mock offense and shook his head disapprovingly.

"That's why you pander to her. I was worried you actually liked her." Isaac pipped up from across the clearing. Stiles was the only one that noticed the way Derek's face changed a little. Blushing and looking flustered. His tongue darted across his lips in the way Stiles noticed he did whenever he was trying to hide something. The group started heading back to the carpark as the sun started to set, all to aware that there were hunters after them somewhere in the woods.
