November 1974

Remus's friendship with Mason was in an awkward place for him. He'd admitted to her the end of the last year he was a werewolf, she admitted to him in turn she already knew.

They talked a lot now.

Whenever Remus needed a break from the boys, as much as he loved them they were quite a rowdy bunch, he'd find her in the library.

Remus loved to read, as did Mason, and she always came handy with a new American novel for him to read.

Their monthly meetups in front of the window in the library hadn't ceased yet. He was still confused how she managed to do what she did, but he was afraid to ask.

Afraid to find out he trusted her with his biggest secret, but she didn't trust him.

But he was a Gryffindor for a reason, he decided, so he asked.

She paused what she was working on as she thought over how to answer.

"It's not really a secret... I just... people tend to treat me differently, so it's more of a 'don't-ask-don't-tell' mentality." She decided.

She sighed
"Fenrir Greyback is the reason I am the way I am."

Remus froze, shock and utter confusion coursed through his body.

He knew the name

Of course he knew the name

"I-I don't..."

"My parents were insane, right? Well they worshipped him. Thought he was some sort of apocalyptic god.... as a thank you, they decided their first girl would be dedicated to him. They expected to create me into a 'perfect bride' for him, someone to help him usher forth a new genealogy of werewolves... it didn't go the way they wanted it to. I don't know everything they did to create me the way I am, so there's no way to replicate it, but the magic that's created in me...... well it takes energy to create energy. Medically speaking I can't reproduce, any egg created in my womb the magic takes all life from to create itself, and from itself it takes energy to create... more of itself? Anyway, I can't have kids, the magic won't allow it."

Remus felt stuck in his seat, equally horrified and intrigued to know the rest.

"To answer your question though, your transformation takes magic and energy from your body to... shift. I'm helping by pushing my own energy into you, it also serves to calm down the... other... part of you. Magic has a sort of imprint when used. I'm essentially a wolf animagus, I can't shift or anything, but using my magic by pushing it into you also kinda leaves a sort of imprint of my wolf with yours? It makes him feel less lonely? It's hard to explain but I'm kinda imprinting your wolf as one of my own, not in like ownership, but like..."

"Like a pack." Remus finished.

She smiled at him
"Yeah."

Remus had learned over the months that selfishly she was not only helping Remus for him, but also for herself.
