Rickel***
I stared at the closed door wondering what went wrong. Was I too small? Did she not feel the same way about me? Was I been too pushy?
I quickly finished showering so I could find out what was wrong. Reese was locked away in her room so I knocked on the door twice.
"I don't want to talk right now." She seemed to be sitting directly behind the door.
"Reese are you alright? Open the door. I need to know that you're ok."
She sniffled a bit. "I am fine Rickel. You don't have to worry about me."
Dammit!! Why do women have to always be this stubborn?! I can never understand them.
I unfolded my fist and took deep breaths to prevent myself from banging on the door.
"Reese....please. Just open the door."
"No Rickel. I'm fine. There's nothing to worry about."
Ugh!!
I leaned back on the door and slid down to the floor. Had this been any other girl, I would have gone to my room a long time ago. I wouldn't care one bit about how she felt.....but this was Reese....my Reese.
Her sobbing had subsided by now. "Rickel?" She called and I didn't answer.
"Rickel?" She called much louder this time but I still remained quiet.
She hissed her teeth. "Of course. I know he would have left."
"I guess you don't know me at all. I'm still here Reese."
She gasped then remain quiet.
"Reese why did you run away? Did I do something you didn't like?"
She sighed. "Well I guess you did, not now anyway. I don't think I'm ready to be intimate with you yet."
I started feeling insecure about myself. "Well......ok. If that's how you feel...."
She started sobbing again. "I keep seeing you on top of me.....raping me."
I had a sinking feeling in my gut. I have no idea how I'm going to make her forget or even start trusting me more.
"I cannot tell you how sorry I am......I wish there's a way I could make it up to you."
A few moments went by and she didn't respond. I the door unlock.
"You could hold me." She whispered. At least I was getting somewhere with her.
"Sure." I held her and we sat there in silence.
I had so many things I wanted to say to her, so many things I wanted to ask but I remained quiet. Maybe now is not the time.
My hands seemed to be very comfortable because fifteen minutes later she fell asleep.
I moved a piece of stray hair from her face. I smiled as I looked at how beautiful she was.
It's hard to imagine all the things she had to go through before even reaching thirty years old. If I could go back in time, I could have prevented her from getting hurt so much. That damn Tavarie! He caused it. I hope he rots in jail.Reese was snoring softly now and I slowly tried to lift her without waking her. She was way heavier when she sleeps. I brought her to my bedroom and laid her down. I had the best bed in the house and she looks so tired. I don't think she will mind that I brought her here instead of her room.
I closed the door behind me and went to the kitchen to get a drink of wine.
I sighed. Today was a damn hectic day full of surprises. I took my drink to the living room and flicked the tv on. It was almost 8pm so sleep was no where near my eyes.
As I took the last sip of wine, my phone rang. It was from the hotel Sheila was staying at. If she's spending too much of my money, I'm seriously going to cut her off this time.
"Hello?"
"Hi. Is this Mr. Rickel Nichols?"
I cleared my throat. "Uhm....yes it is. May I ask what the problem is?"
"It's Shelia sir. Can you come down here?"
I didn't need her to explain any further. "I'm on my way." I answered and hung up.
My heart was racing as I grabbed my keys and a pair of sneakers. It wasn't out of character for Sheila to do someone stupid and I wonder what she had done this time.
All the way to the hotel my palms were sweating. I kept wondering what kind of stunt she was pulling this time.
The hotel was swarming with news reporters when I got there so I used the back entrance.
Just my damn luck.
I cannot afford to be in the media again for something stupid that will tarnish my reputation.
Sheila was standing at the end of the balcony with a knife at her throat and a million cameras surrounding her.
The hotel manager was trying to reason with her.
"Mam, please come down. We can talk it out. There are counsellors here willing to speak with you."
"No!" She screamed. "I need Rickel."
I sighed. This is definitely going to be in the news tomorrow.
"Sheila!" I said firmly and she almost fell.
On instinct, I stepped forward but she quickly regained her balance.
A smile spread across her face. "Rickel. You came."
Her hair was a mess and her face was even worse. Her mascara had run with her tears down her cheeks and was now dry and black. She looked like she was wearing a Halloween costume.
"Yes, I came. Now come down so we can go home." I stretched out my hand to her. All cameras were pointing at me, snapping pictures and videoing.
"No. If you come any closer I'm going to pull this knife across my throat."
Dammit! Maybe I should just let her do it. I wouldn't have to deal with her anymore.
A few onlookers gasped and covered their mouths while others turned away. The cameraman were zooming in on me, waiting for my reply.
I took a deep breath and said the only thing that will surely make her come down. "If you kill yourself, who will I marry?"
Her eyes went wide as I went down on one knee. "Should I do it here or do it more romantically like I planned?"
She was squealing like a little girl. "Do it right now!" She dropped the knife and clapped gleefully.
I sighed. I guess I'll to make it sound real. "Sheila, I fell in love with you from the first time I laid eyes on you. You are the missing piece of my puzzle. You complete me. Will you make me the happiest man by becoming my wife?"
She jumped from the balcony and ran to me. "Yes! Of course I'll marry you!"
As we locked lips I heard one of the reporters say, "You heard it here first people. Billionaire Rickel Nichols is officially off the market."
Oh God! I hope Reese isn't watching the news.
