Chapter 1

Reese ***

The hardest battles are given to the strongest fighters. I first heard that statement in an action movie and it has resonated with me ever since. My life has been no walk in the park. Today is one of the hardest since it is my first day working for Rickel Amir Nichols.

Rick. The bad-tempered, awful, womanizing jerk who is also filthy rich.

The only reason I took this job was because my friend, Gaby, forced me to.......probably because I was currently living on her couch and invading her space. Plus I have a personal vendetta against him.

I inhaled and exhaled as I rang the doorbell and awaited an answer.

"Please look into the camera." A male voice said over the intercom.

I looked up.

The butterflies in my stomach were going crazy and I know I must look really nervous.

There was a beep and the door opened.

Well, this is it. Remember. You're doing this because you do not want to live on the street.

I took another deep breath and entered the mansion.

I stood in awe.

I was standing in a hallway on red carpet. Red carpet! On both sides of the hallway were photos of Rick and what I'm guessing are family members. One particular picture caught my eye.
Rick was in this photo wearing an elf suit and issuing presents to kids.
From what I experienced, Rick isn't a compassionate guy so I wonder how much they had to pay him to do this.

"I'm not paying you to stare at my photos, Miss Rivera!" His voice boomed and I almost jumped in surprise.

I walked to the living room and was again awestruck. The carpet in here was thicker and the furniture looked more expensive than everything I've ever owned combined. I felt cheap standing here in my worn-out sneakers and old clothes.

"......and that's your main duty," Rick said and I have no idea what that duty is.

He then handed me a piece of paper, took up his briefcase, and slammed the door shut.

What have I gotten myself into?

I looked at the paper in my hand.

MAID RULES
1. Always be on time for work.
2. Complete tasks on time
3. Speak only when you are spoken to
4. You will be required to work overtime on some occasions
5. Please obey all rules.
