Rickel ***

When we reached back to the cabin it was almost 4pm. I really surprised myself today, telling Reese about my pass. I've never opened up to anyone, let alone a girlfriend before but something about Reese made me want to spill my deepest, darkest secrets. But of course I didn't.......

"I'm starved."

I chuckled. "Dinner will be ready in a few minutes. If you continue eating like this I'm going to have to change the doors to get your fat ass out of here!"

Why the hell did I say that when I know how insecure women can be about their bodies.

Reese burst out laughing and I sighed in relief. I'm so happy that she's not like most women I've dated. She gets my humor.

Reese went to take a shower while I helped to set the table. The chef was furious saying that I was doing what he was paid to do but I didn't care. So what if I helped? I'm not the stuck up kind of rich guy.

"I'm all cleaned up." Reese announced when she strolled into the living room wearing a pair of joggers and a close fitting t-shirt. I was no longer hungry for food, I was hungry for her body.

"Dinner is served." The chef announced, making me stop my R-rated thoughts.

Reese and I walked to the dining room and sat down.

"What are you waiting for?" I asked when she sat and didn't start eating.

"Oh it's just going to be us? I thought every one were joining us."

"No, it's just us."

"Oh." She shrugged her shoulders and I could almost see her thoughts running across her face. She was making assumptions about me.

"They prefer to eat in the helper's quarters." I clarified.

"Okay....." Reese shrugged again and started eating.

I am not an awful person. I have always invited the helpers to eat at the table with us. They joined me once, but when my mother walked in and saw them she was furious. She almost fired all of them. So now they're probably just scared to eat in here even though she isn't here.

I couldn't bother explaining all that to Reese so we sat and ate in silence.

About fifteen minutes later, my plate was clean and Reese was still eating.

"Reese. Can you hurry and eat please?"

She bugged her eyes out at me. "Why?"

I smirked. "Because I have a surprise for you."

She dropped her fork on the plate with a clang and folded her arms. "What kind of surprise?"

"You'll know when you've finished eating."

"I'm done eating now Rickel."

I chuckled. "Not until you've cleaned your plate young lady."

"OK dad." She rolled her eyes then laughed a little.

I watched her from the corner of my eye as she ate hastily. She had a bit of sauce on her lips and I had to fight the urge to wipe it off slowly. I shook my head. For Christ's sake, this is real life. Not a cliche movie or novel. The light isn't going to go dim and jazz music start playing now if I kiss her, right?

"Is something bothering you?" Reese asked as she wiped the sauce away. "Your face is twisting like you're having an inside battle."

I chuckled. "No. I'm just waiting for dinner to be over so I can surprise you."

She raised her eyebrows at me. "Hmmm......should I be scared Mr. Nichols?"

"No. I'm just not sure if you're going to accept my gift but I really hope you do."

It took her another five minutes to finish eating and then she insisted that we clear the table and wash the dishes. I know she is working as my maid but she's on a vacation as my guest.

I sighed as I packed up the last plate. I can never win against her.

"And now I'm ready. Surprise me darling."

I laughed at her childishness as I lead her to the bedroom. She took a seat on the bed and watched me anxiously.

"You have to close your eyes." I commanded and she obeyed.

I took the envelope from my bag and placed it in her hands. "Ok Miss Rivera, you can open now."

She looked at the envelope then looked up at me. "What is this?"

"How will you know if you don't open it?" She was making me more nervous and anxious than I should be.

She took forever to open the big brown envelope and I watched her read the contents.

She stayed quiet.

I gave her time to process what she was reading.

Five minutes later she still had her head down, staring at the letter.

"So?" I couldn't wait on her any longer. "Do you accept it?"

She looked up at me with teary eyes. "What did I do? Why would you do this for me?"

Is she crying?

I knelt beside the bed and took her hand into mine. "I feel it is my duty. I feel like I'm somehow responsible for you not completing your degree."

"I am not your responsibility."

I sighed. "I know. Whatever the real reason for you dropping out of college is, I want to correct it. I'm paying for you to go back. I really don't think your calling in life is to be a maid and I'm damn sure you don't want to work for me forever. Please will you accept my offer? I mean, I already paid and you already got accepted for the online course. You could work and go to school-"

She flung her arms around my shoulders cutting me off. "Thank you." She whispered into my ear and I could feel my neck getting wet.

I smiled to myself. Reese is such an emotional person. I really hope I don't hurt her in the long run.

"Thank you Rickel." She held my cheeks and kissed me softly and passionately.

She looked at the envelope again and did a little yelp.  "I'm going back to school. Holy cow I'm going back to school!!"

I laughed at her new found energy. She kicked off her shoes and started jumping on the bed. "I'm going back to college!!! Yes!!!!"

Who knew she could be so childish? I folded my arms and watched her.

She stretched out her hand toward me. "Well aren't you going to join me?"

"No. I'm good."

"No. You're not." She sprung from the bed and yanked my arm. Before I knew what was happening, I was jumping on the bed and laughing hysterically.

What would my dear mother say if she saw me now?
