Chapter 31

Reese***

"Is it a bad time?" Aaron asked. "I left work and thought I would surprise you with these."

"Awww.....you bought me flowers?" Gaby gushed. "That's so romantic."

Maybe I should just hide but there is no other way out of the apartment. I have to face my fears.

"So is it a bad time?" Aaron asked again.

"I ordered Chinese food but I don't think it will be enough to share."

"That's ok." He stood closer so he could hold her waist. "I'll just eat from your plate.....or your mouth. Whichever one you prefer."

She started giggling.

Uhg! That sounded so gross.

"Can he join us?" Gaby asked me and Aaron stepped inside to see who she was talking to.

His eyes widened when he saw me. "If you're having a girl's night, I can leave."

"Reese doesn't mind. Do you Reese?"

Now what the heck can I say when she puts me on the spot like that?

"Sure. That's fine." I agreed, knowing full well that this was going to be a night of disaster. 

Gaby clapped. "Good. Then it's all settled. You'll just have to eat from both of our plates."

She went to put the flowers in a vase and Aaron and me looked everywhere but at each other.

A few minutes later, the food arrived and I was seated beside Aaron with Gaby on his other side.

"Why don't I go get a plate so you both can give me some?" Aaron asked.

Gaby shook her head. "Nonsense. You can eat from our plates. You don't mind, right Reese?"

"I guess so." I reluctantly agreed.

"See? It's not a problem." She smiled at Aaron as she chose the Netflix movie to watch. She settled on Grownups then dimmed the lights when the movie began.

I was so uncomfortable that I started to sweat. Aaron was wearing shorts and my dress was too short so our legs were touching. My body was overheating and I wondered how Aaron must be feeling right now.

He was eating only from Gaby's plate when she pulled it away from him. "That's not fair. You should be eating from Reese's plate too."  

My heart started thumping. Aaron turned around and his hand brushed over mine as he took my chapsticks from me. Oh my God! His face was so near to my chest, I'm sure he can hear my heart beating.

He ate and returned to the movie, throwing his arm over Gaby's shoulder. I wish I could just disappear from here.

"So how's the rich life treating you Reese? I heard Mr. Hot Body is treating you well." Gaby said and Aaron made eye contact with me for the first time tonight.

There were a lot of questions in that one look he gave me. It's like all hopes of us getting back together was lost and he was just realizing.

"You're with someone named Mr. Hot Body?" He asked and Gaby laughed.

"No silly. His name is-"

"It's not really serious." I butted in before Gaby could start spraying information everywhere.

Aaron smiled weakly. "Hmmm....
You get over your exes pretty quickly, huh?"

"You know her ex?" Gaby asked. "What a small world."
