Reese***

"So, where am I taking you for dinner tonight?" Rickel asked.

It had been two weeks since we came back from the cabin and things were going great.

I had started college and continued working as a maid but things were different now. Rickel treated me like I was his girlfriend that helped out with the chores.....which I was but I got paid for it.

"You choose the restaurant tonight." I suggested.

Rickel kissed me on the cheek. "Great choice, honey."

He whipped out his phone and I could hear him making reservations as he headed toward the bathroom. Looks like we're eating at a fancy restaurant tonight.

I went upstairs to my bedroom to find something semi-formal to wear. Rickel had given me half of his closet which he stacked out with new clothes, shoes, handbags, purses and jewelry. I was living the American dream.

I decided to wear a tight dark blue dress with gold accessories and a pair of gold four inch heels. I put on light make up and was satisfied with my look.

"Hmmmm. You look sexy." Rickel slapped my ass. "I wonder if we're going to make it to the restaurant."

I laughed at his vulgarity. "Get dressed Papi. I'm hungry."

Rickel smiled mischievously. "You're not playing fair Reese. You know how hard I get when you call me Papi. It's so damn sexy."

He snatched after me and I ran around the bed. "Come on Rickel!  You know better than to play with a hungry Puerto Rican woman!"

He continued trying to grab me and I was laughing like crazy. Something about being chased made me overly anxious and a little scared. I screamed at the top of my lungs when he finally grabbed me by the waist and pulled me onto the bed.

"Stop screaming girl." He laughed along with me. "The neighbors are going to think I'm raping you."

I got out of his grip and straightened my dress. "Come on. Get dress already. I'm starving."

Rickel had a worried look on his face. "Are you ok, Reese?"

"Yea." I nodded.

He sighed. "I'm sorry about the rape comment. That was insensitive of me."

I shook my head. "No. It's ok. Now please get dressed. I feel like my internal organs are eating each other."

Rickel laughed at my exaggeration. "Fine. Give me two minutes."

Fifteen minutes later we were driving toward the restaurant with some classic Celine Dion songs filling the car.

Rickel was singing along in his off key tone and I couldn't stop laughing at him.

After a while, he turned down the music. "Reese, we have to make a short stop before going to dinner. I apologize in advance. I hope you don't hate me for this."

"Why would I hate you?"

He pulled the car over and pointed to the building to our left. I was so engrossed in the music that I didn't even realize we were driving in the direction of Gaby's apartment.

I sighed and closed my eyes. "Why am I here? Gaby made it clear she wants nothing to do with me."

Rickel squeezed my shoulder. "Gaby is your friend. She is up there waiting to talk to you."

"Or waiting to kill me." I mumbled.

"Uhm....do you want me to walk you up there?"

I exhaled audibly. "No. I'll go alone." I came out and locked the door. "And Rickel, if I'm not back in twenty minutes, please call the police and an ambulance."

Rickel smiled. "Good luck babe. Now go get your best friend back so we can go eat."

The walk up to Gaby's apartment was filled with nostalgia. I remembered the first time I came here, carrying nothing but the single bag of clothes I owned. Gaby took me in after only meeting me once. Boy was she trusting of strangers. Until this day, I can't believe she never asked about my past.

I took deep breaths as I tapped on the door. Gaby opened it rather quickly as if she was waiting for me to show up.

"I come in peace." I put up two fingers.

Gaby didn't even crack a smile. She grabbed me and pulled me in for a hug. "I've missed you so much.....I still hate you though. Come on in."

I was nervous as I stepped into the apartment and she locked the door. I felt like I was in a horror movie and she was going to kill me any second now. That welcome was really weird and I didn't know how to take it.

I sat on the couch and Gaby brought two glasses of grape juice.

That's it! She's going to poison me!

"Gaby. I'm really sorry about what happened. I wanted to tell you that Aaron was my ex but it was never the right time. You seemed so happy and I didn't want to ruin it-"

"Stop." Gaby held up one of her hand. "You can stop apologizing now. I understand. Rickel explained everything plus you did me a favour. Aaron is a jackass. I'm glad things turned out the way they did."

"Wait did you say Rickel explained?"

"Yep. You have a great guy right there. I hope things work out between you two."

A smile tugged at my lips as I put my drink down to hug Gaby.

"I don't know what I would do without you Gabs. I missed you so much."

Gaby sniffled a bit. "Ok that's enough emotional crap. Tell me what's it been like banging a millionaire."

I laughed at her candor as I tried to give her snippets of our love life. She was oohing and ahhing like she was watching a romantic movie.

We talked for about half an hour. I can't believe I have gone so many weeks without talking to her. It felt so good to talk to someone other than Rickel.

"Wait, why did you and Aaron break up?"

I stopped laughing. She had touched a sensitive spot. "That's a story for another time."

"Ok." She said. The look on her face was so pitiful, I couldn't help myself. She was basically the only friend I have so if I was going to tell someone my darkest secret, it might as well be her.

So without thinking it over, I told her everything.

"So?" I sighed when I was finished.

The surprised look on her face was making me nervous. She took a sip of her drink and remained silent.

"Gaby, say something please."

"What does Rickel think about this?"

"I haven't told him yet."

"Why the hell not? Are you waiting for him to find out from someone else? You know that won't work out well for you."

"I know. I'm just waiting for the right time."

Gaby shook her head. "How do you do it? You've been through so much. How are you still sane through all this?"

The tears started flowing and Gaby hugged me tightly. "I'm so sorry for everything you've been through. If I can help you in any way just say the word." Gaby said as she cried along with me. We were a mess.

There was a knock on the door and Gaby tried to dry her eyes as she went to answer it.

"Is everything ok? I hope those are good tears."

Rickel! Oh my gosh. I forgot he was waiting on me.

"Babe I'm so sorry. We started talking and we got carried away."

He came over and hugged me. "That's ok baby. As long as you got your friend back, I'm ok. I have bad news though. We missed our dinner reservations."

Gaby laughed. "I guess we're having dinner together tonight. Aren't you guys happy that I cooked?"

"Yes please. I'm starving." Rickel laughed.

And just like that, I had my friend back and she now knows everything about me.
