Rickel***
I got into my car and rushed over to the hotel. If Tavarie is still the guy I know he is, Reese is in great danger.
When Sheila called me at the party, I didn't want to answer her. I couldn't handle her drama right now but for some weird reason I picked up. She told me she saw Reese check into a hotel room with a guy but she didnt know his name. When she described him, though, I knew it was Tavarie.
"Wait there's more.... Reese said you were-"
I had cut her off before she finished her sentence. I didn't have time for any wild stories she was going to make up. All I cared about was saving Reese from that awful monster.
Reese was in the lobby when I got there and Tavarie was no where to be found.
Before I went into the lobby I called Tavarie.
"Rickel, my man! What's up?" He answered innocently.
"Don't play games with me dammit! If you lay just one finger on her you're going to regret ever knowing me!"
"What? Who are you talking about?"
I took a deep breath to calm my temper. "Tavarie, please. I am tired and I don't have time for this right now. Just know that Reese is not someone for you to toy around. She is mine."
"Reese?" He seemed surprised. "Reese is your girlfriend? I had no idea bro."
I hung up the call. Tavarie actually sounded genuine. Maybe he isn't trying to use Reese afterall. Whatever his intentions may be, I'm not taking any chances.
When I entered the lobby, Reese started walking toward me. She seemed relaxed and very calm. I felt a pang of guilt as she strode in all her beauty. She was amazing and she didn't deserve a dog like me.
"Ready?" I asked and she smiled as she tucked a piece of stray hair behind her ear.
"Sure."
I turned and she followed me to the car. I waited for her to start bombarding me with questions but she remained silent. Maybe she was just tired.
I cleared my throat. "Uhm.....how are you?"
She smiled weakly. "I'm fine."
I knew she wasn't fine. She couldn't be fine after meeting Tavarie.
"Why did Tavarie bring you here?" I couldn't stop myself from asking. "He's not a good person."
"I think I should be the judge of that." She was getting defensive.
I sighed. Maybe I should just tell her. I have never felt comfortable to tell this to anyone before but I felt like pouring everything out to her.
"Reese, I'm going to tell you something but you have to promise not to take it the wrong way." I glanced over at her. She seemed to be so engrossed in her phone.
"Are you even listening to me?"
She turned to face me. "Go ahead. I'm listening."
I took a deep breath.
"More than a year ago, I was at a masquerade party." I started to say and she started clicking on her phone.
She returned her attention to me and I continued.
"I was drinking with some friends that night when I did something stupid. My friend told me he had someone special waiting for me in a hotel room. He told me she liked rough sex. I went to the room and the girl started calling me Aaron. Right then I knew something was wrong, but I still went ahead and had sex with her...... Are you getting what I'm saying Reese? I raped that girl. I raped her and not a day goes by when I don't think about what I did and how it must have affected her."
I exhaled and waited for her to comment but she didn't. She just continued staring out the window probably processing what I just said.
She let out a long sigh but still didn't say anything. It's almost as if she expected me to do something like that. She must think I'm a monster.
"If you don't want to work for me anymore, that's fine. I'll understand."
"No." She stopped me. "Why would you just take away my income like that?"
"Oh. I just thought you didn't want to work for me anymore since I told you my darkest secret."
"No that's fine."
"But you seem sad."
She shook her head. "No. I just need some rest and I'll be my usual perky self. I'm just really tired."
"Ok then. I'll give you some space. You can take two days off to relax.....with pay of course."
Her head flashed toward me. "Are you serious?"
I nodded.
"Thank you so much."
As I pulled into the garage, I felt calm. Taking to Reese really made me feel better. I don't even feel like I need therapy anymore.
"Should I make you something to eat?"
"No that's fine." I couldn't ask her to do anything more for today. She was tired.
"I'll be in my room if you need me." Reese said as she exited the car and went into the house.
My guilt was eating me alive. I shouldn't have had sex with Janell. Now I've added another girl to my list of girls to avoid. I really hope she's not like Sheila, expecting me to marry her after a one night stand.
I poured myself a glass of white wine. Why did I have to let my ego control me? Why couldn't I just admit that I like Reese and get over with it? Why do I have to keep fighting it? Why don't I have anyone to talk to about this?
Dammit!
Its times like these that made me wish I was born poor. I would have friends to talk to. I would be able to make mistakes without facing much consequences.
"Rickel." My mom came into the kitchen. "What's wrong honey? Are you missing Sheila? You know she's just a phone call away."
I didn't even remember my mom was still here.
"Sheila and I are history. You need to get used to that."
My mother had concern in her eyes. "Is everything alright. You can talk to me honey. I'm leaving in two days. You can spend a little time with your mother."
"Ok. But please keep your negative comments to yourself."
