Rickel***

I tossed and turned in bed. All I could think about was Reese's beautiful face and how awful I was for not paying attention to her at the party.
I can just imagine how devastated she's going to be when she finds out what I did with Janell. It wasn't the first time I had sex with Janell but this time felt different. I felt like I cheated on Reese.

While I was with Sheila, I used to have sex with a lot of girls and I wouldn't feel guilty. Why were things different with Reese when we were only in a fake relationship?

I turned on my other side and glanced at my alarm clock. 8:09 p.m. What was I doing in bed so early anyway?

When I got back from the airport, Reese wasn't home so I heated up some chilli that she left then came straight to bed.

I couldn't stop wondering where she was. What if she was hurt or worse, what if she was out with another guy? What if that guy was Tavarie?

My blood started to boil as I dialed her number.

"Hey." Her voice filled my ear and I closed my eyes to savour it. "Hello?" She called again.

"Uhm...Reese? When will you be back?"

She laughed lightly. "I'm walking up the driveway now. Do you need me to tuck you in?"

"Nonsense." I answered gruffly. "I was just checking to make sure you're safe. There are devious people on the road at nights."

"Ok Dad!" I heard her opening the front door and I went downstairs to the kitchen.

I wasn't wearing a shirt and my joggers hung loosely, exposing my v-line.

Hmmm....maybe I should tease Reese a bit before I go to bed.

"Have you had something to eat?" She asked when she came into the kitchen. "I left some chilli on the stove."

"Yea. I ate already."

"Oh so you can help yourself? That's amazing." Her eyes went down to my waist then quickly came back up to my face.

Look at it girl! Look what you could be having right now for desert.

She didn't look back down at my waist. Maybe she had sex before coming home!

"So were you on a date?"

She shook her head. "No." Her playful demeanor was gone. "Can I ask for a favour?"

I hated seeing those frown lines on her forehead. They make her less attractive but cute at the same time.

"What kind of favour?"

"A job." She answered. "Are there any job openings at your company?"

Why did she need a job?

"Am I not paying you enough?"

"No. No." She waved her hands at me. "It's not for me. I'm asking for a friend."

"Is this friend unemployed?"

"No. She just needs a change." She said as she took out her phone. "Take a look at this. This is how her employer treats her."

I glanced at the picture and a familiar feeling overtook me. I've seen this kind of stuff in my circles before. Bosses who physically and verbally abuse their employees then threaten to kill them if they speak out.

"I'll find something for your friend, I promise."

Reese smiled. "Thanks. I'll text Gaby and tell her right away."

"Wait. This is happening to Gaby?"

Reese nodded.

"Do you know who her boss is?" I asked. I would love to pay him a visit.

"No but I'll ask."

Reese walked toward the living room then ran back to me. She flung her arms around my waist and gripped me tight.

"Thank you so much Rickel." Tears were streaming down her face and I knew she wasn't only saying thanks for helping her friend. There was more behind those tears.

I held her head against my chest. "It's ok Reese."

I felt connected to her and I couldn't help but wonder if she was the one.

The conversation I had with my mom on the way to the airport came flooding back.

"I can tell that you are in love with her."

"Mom, for the last time, I'm not in love with Sheila- "

"I'm not talking about Sheila. I'm not blind son. I'm talking about that maid of yours."

I smiled. "Oh. I thought you hated her."

My mom sighed. "I don't hate her. I just don't think she's the right fit for you.....but I guess I can learn to like her overtime."

"I love you, Reese." I whispered into her hair as I rubbed her back.

"What?" She pulled away from me.

"I said I owe you Reese. For helping me with Shelia and helping me around the house."

My heart was jumping from my chest. Why did I even say that out loud? Why am I so stupid around her?

"I'm more in debted to you. You gave my mom a house for crying out loud! I don't know how I'm ever going to thank you."

The pure innocence on her face made me want to just hug her and kiss those sweet lips.

"Have you talked to your mom?" I asked before my mind could betray me again.

"Yes!" She covered her mouth. "How come you didn't tell me you hired her a maid?!"

I took a bottle of water from the fridge and took a few sips. "I guess I'm a man of few words." I tried my best to sound mysterious.

She just rolled her eyes and just like that the happy, playful Reese was back.

"Thank you very much Rickel." She smiled at me before walking up to her room.

I stood in the kitchen smiling to myself like a damn idiot. I glanced toward the stairs to make sure Reese wasn't watching me. I don't want her seeing me all soft and mushy. I'm a man for crying out loud. I don't do these kinds of stuff. Yet here I was smiling with a water bottle.

Grrrr! What was wrong with me!

I took up my phone and dialed Janell's number.

"Hey Rickel..." Her voice was soft and sweet.

"What happened between us at the party was the last time. It can't happen again."

"Huh? Why? Was I not good enough?" Her voice was starting to shake already.

"It's not that.....my girlfriend and I are getting serious."

"Who? Reese?" I could hear the scorn in her voice. "Is this some kind of joke? She's just another Sheila or Amanda or whomever."

I ran a hand through my hair. I didn't have time for this anyway. "Before I forget why I called, please make preparation for me to have a second assistant. She'll be starting on Monday."

I hung up before she could protest. Now I have to find out who Gaby's boss is so I can pay him a visit.
