Hero called down to the front desk and they arranged for a cab to take us to the nearest hospital.
It was a little after 1 AM, only a hour or so after we finally fell asleep. The roads were bare and dark on our drive over, making the situation seem even weirder then it already was.
I couldn't help remembering what happened the last time I had to go to a foreign hospital and I told myself repeatedly that everything was going to be OK this time.
We didn't really talk on the way there, just sat in silence while Hero rubbed my belly. I knew we were both nervous about the same thing and neither of us wanted to talk about it. The contractions kept coming sometimes 5, 10 or 15 minutes apart and I hoped that he hadn't noticed that she wasn't moving right now but I knew by the movement and pressure of his hands he did.
After checking into the hospital they took us to a room, had me change into a gown, hooked me up to a IV and a electronic fetal monitor to look at the contractions and the babies heartbeat. Thankfully the nurse spoke English so there was not a language barrier and she let us know the babies heartbeat was fine and they would monitor me for a hour or so and see what was going on.
Hero paced the room for the hour while I tried to distract myself with checking my email. Every time a contractions showed on the monitor his pacing became faster which didn't help me relax.
A little while after the hour was over the nurse came back with a doctor on call and after doing more tests they determined everything with the baby was fine. I wasn't in labor just having braxton hicks, probably because of overworking, dehydration and stress.
They insisted I stayed there until morning to monitor the baby just to be safe and cleared me to travel the next day as long as the braxton hicks didn't get any worse.
"I don't want to stress you out anymore but I think for the sake of the baby you need go decide where you are going tomorrow. We need to have things planned to be safe." Hero says as soon as they leave the room.
"I know." I sigh trying not to cry, knowing I have to go to the last place I want to be. "I want to go home with you.... but I have to go to LA."
"Forget LA. Lets go home, please Jo?" He pleads grabbing my hands.
"This is what is stressing me out. You know I don't have much of a choice with my commitments." I tell him exhausted.
"I know. I'm sorry, we will figure it out in the morning. Get some sleep." He says kissing my head and then taking seat a seat in the recliner in the corner.
I fall asleep quickly while he works away on his phone like a madman. I wake up several times through the night to find him still working on his phone or from him leaving the room to take a call. I try to get him to share my bed at some point and he refuses nicely, telling me he is arranging his flight so I give up, finally falling into a deep sleep.
