The two of us ran through the forest in silence.

For once, it wasn't a comfortable silence.

Ever since leaving Naruto and Killer Bee behind, neither of us had spoken a word.

I knew why.

Naruto.

His words still echoed in my head.

I practically lured Sasuke to the Five Kage Summit so he could kill Danzo.

I hadn't denied it.

And Itachi had noticed.

Of course he had.

Nothing escaped him.

Eventually, he broke the silence.

"Was what Naruto said true?"

I kept my eyes forward.

The trees blurred past us.

I didn't answer.

A few moments passed.

Then came the question I had been dreading.

"How did Danzo die?"

My jaw tightened.

"(Y/N)."

Still nothing.

"When you told me he was dead, you didn't seem remorseful."

I stopped running.

The forest suddenly fell silent around us.

Leaves drifted lazily through the air.

I slowly turned around.

"So what if I killed him?"

The words came out sharper than I intended.

Itachi froze.

My eyes burned.

"He murdered my mother."

My voice cracked.

"He ruined our family."

I clenched my fists.

"He destroyed your life."

The disappointment on his face hurt more than anger ever could.

"Revenge won't—"

"Don't."

I cut him off immediately.

"Don't you dare."

His expression faltered.

"You don't get to stand there and tell me revenge solves nothing."

The tears were already forming.

"You left me."

His eyes widened.

"You didn't just die, Itachi."

I pointed at my chest.

"You left."

Years of grief poured out at once.

"I lost my parents."

"I lost my brother."

"I lost my clan."

"And then I lost you."

My voice shook.

"Do you have any idea what that was like?"

He looked away.

Good.

Because I had spent years looking away.
