Eight days later, Itachi and I left for the Village Hidden in the Grass.

The plan was simple. He would remain in the village while I attended the rendezvous alone.

Simple didn't mean easy.

As we travelled, I couldn't shake the feeling that everything was about to change. After three years of chasing rumours, dead ends, and shadows, I was finally close to Sasuke.

And close to him.

The journey took two days.

On the morning of the meeting, I arrived at Tenchi Bridge several hours early, exactly as I had promised. The river flowed quietly beneath the bridge while I waited, trying to ignore the nervous knot in my stomach.

Eventually, familiar chakra signatures approached.

I turned to see Naruto, Sakura, and two strangers.

"This is Sai," Sakura said, gesturing to the pale boy. "And Captain Yamato."

My eyes immediately settled on Sai.

Foundation.

Danzo's Foundation.

I felt my jaw tighten.

After learning the truth about the Uchiha massacre, there were few people I despised more than Danzo.

Still, I forced my expression to remain neutral.

Instead, I turned to Sakura.

"Did you read it?"

She smiled softly.

"I did."

The smile quickly faded.

"I just can't believe he's become this person."

A familiar ache settled in my chest.

"That's why we're here."

I looked between them.

"So what's the plan?"

Captain Yamato stepped forward.

"I'll transform into Sasori and try to get information from the spy."

I considered it.

"It could work. Assuming the spy isn't smarter than all of us."

Naruto groaned.

"That's reassuring."

For the next few hours we rehearsed every possible scenario.

Then noon arrived.

"Sasori" and I stepped onto the bridge.

The figure waiting there slowly raised his head.

The moment I saw him, I sighed.

Of course.

"Big Brother Kabuto."

His face brightened slightly.

"Hello again, (Y/N)."

Despite myself, I smiled back.

Some habits were difficult to break.

"Were you followed?" Yamato asked in Sasori's voice.

Kabuto glanced around casually.

"It's only the three of us."

"We have questions."

"I don't have much time."

Kabuto's expression grew serious.
