When I arrived at the gates of the Hidden Leaf Village, I was greeted by a familiar blonde woman.
"Aunty Tsunade."
The Fifth Hokage looked exhausted.
For a moment neither of us moved.
Then she crossed the distance between us and pulled me into a tight hug.
I stiffened in surprise before slowly returning it.
"What happened?" she asked quietly.
I closed my eyes.
The image of Itachi collapsing replayed in my mind.
The blood.
The smile.
The forehead poke.
The bracelet turning black.
My throat tightened.
"He's dead."
The words came out broken.
Tsunade's arms tightened around me.
For a moment I thought she was comforting me.
Then I felt something wet hit my shoulder.
I froze.
She was crying.
My eyes widened.
Tsunade almost never cried.
Not where anyone could see.
Slowly, I hugged her tighter.
"Aunty?"
She pulled away first.
There was something else in her eyes.
Something worse.
Immediately, my stomach dropped.
"What's wrong?"
"It's nothing."
"Aunty."
She looked away.
"It can wait."
"No."
My voice hardened.
"No more secrets."
Her shoulders sagged.
For a moment she looked every bit her age.
Then she whispered:
"It's Jiraiya."
My heart stopped.
"He what?"
Tsunade swallowed.
"He's dead."
The world went silent.
No.
No.
Not him too.
I couldn't breathe.
My legs gave out beneath me.
One moment I was standing.
The next I was kneeling on the ground.
Jiraiya.
Uncle Jiraiya.
The man who snuck into my wedding just to see me.
The man who always slipped me candy when Tsunade wasn't looking.
Gone.
A sob escaped my throat.
Tsunade immediately knelt beside me and wrapped her arms around me again.
