Reunion

After what felt like forever, we finally arrived at the hideout.

Captain Yamato's clone was already waiting for us outside what appeared to be nothing more than a rock wall.

While Naruto, Sakura, and Captain Yamato discussed their next move, I slipped away and inspected the stone face.

There was a crack running through the centre.

A hidden entrance.

Unfortunately, Earth Style had never been my strong suit.

So I waited.

Eventually, Captain Yamato used his Wood Style to drill through the rock and create an entrance.

The moment there was enough room, I transformed into a snake and slithered inside.

The hideout was massive.

Dark hallways stretched in every direction.

Rooms branched off endlessly.

I found Sai.

I found Kabuto.

But not Sasuke.

Not Orochimaru.

Then an explosion shook the entire hideout.

My heart immediately dropped.

I raced toward the source of the disturbance.

When I arrived, Naruto, Sakura, Sai, and Captain Yamato were frozen in place.

Staring upward.

I followed their gaze.

And there he was.

Sasuke.

Standing on the ledge above us.

For a moment, everything else disappeared.

Three years.

Three years of searching.

Three years of dead ends.

Three years of wondering if he was alive.

Three years of hoping.

And there he was.

I barely realized I was moving.

I climbed onto the ledge, wanting to get closer.

Wanting proof that he was real.

That was my mistake.

A hand shot out.

Suddenly I was lifted off the ground.

My back hit the wall.

Sasuke's hand tightened around my throat.

The force of it broke my transformation.

Smoke filled the air as I returned to my human form.

Our Sharingan met.

Red against red.

His eyes widened ever so slightly.

Mine probably did too.

"Don't ever try to sneak up on me," he said coldly.

I struggled for breath.

"That... was my mistake."

For several long seconds, neither of us moved.

He could kill me.

We both knew it.
