We continued moving through the forest in silence.

By now, I was fully healed.

Unfortunately, that hadn't stopped Itachi from carrying me.

No amount of arguing, reasoning, or threatening had convinced him to put me down.

"Itachi."

Nothing.

"Seriously."

Still nothing.

I narrowed my eyes.

"I am perfectly capable of walking."

"You were crushed by a meteor."

"I was only partially crushed."

His shoulders shook slightly.

The traitor was laughing.

Before I could continue my argument, a familiar voice called out from somewhere behind us.

"Itachi!"

I froze.

No.

I leaned over Itachi's shoulder and squinted into the trees.

At first I couldn't make out the figure.

Then gradually, through my recovering vision, dark hair and a familiar silhouette came into focus.

Sasuke.

Of course.

I immediately felt my mood sour.

I tapped Itachi's shoulder.

"You can put me down now."

Without argument, he lowered me onto a nearby branch.

The three of us continued moving.

For several moments, nobody spoke.

Then—

"Is that really you, Itachi?"

I rolled my eyes.

Typical.

Not a greeting.

Not an apology.

Straight to Itachi.

Neither of us answered.

Sasuke accelerated until he was running alongside us.

"Itachi."

Still nothing.

Finally, I sighed.

"We're busy."

His eyes flickered toward me.

Only now seeming to remember I existed.

Something ugly twisted in my chest.

Not anger.

Not anymore.

Something colder.

"You know," I said lightly, "most people start with 'hello'."

His expression tightened.

I kept my eyes forward.

"Or maybe, 'sorry I tried to kill you.'"

"(Y/N)—"

"No, don't worry."

I waved dismissively.

"It's only been a few weeks."

The sarcasm dripped from every word.

"Completely understandable."
