A Meeting With Destiny

It wasn't long before we discovered we were being pursued by the Hidden Leaf.

I had to fight to keep the smile off my face.

Naruto.

Sakura.

Kakashi Sensei.

They had come.

Despite everything, they had come for Gaara.

The small smile didn't go unnoticed.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Itachi watching me.

He didn't say anything.

He didn't have to.

We both knew exactly what I was thinking.

Pain quickly devised a plan to buy time for the sealing.

Using one of his jutsu, a portion of an Akatsuki member's chakra would be transferred into a living sacrifice, creating a perfect duplicate capable of using the original's techniques.

The first group approaching belonged to Guy Sensei.

"Leave him to me," Kisame volunteered immediately.

A grin spread across his face.

"I have unfinished business with him."

I rolled my eyes.

"I wouldn't get your hopes up."

Kisame glanced at me.

"Why not?"

"The man is terrible with faces."

Several members looked at me.

I shrugged.

"He probably doesn't even remember who you are."

Kisame looked offended.

"I am unforgettable."

"Keep telling yourself that."

The glare he sent me only made Deidara laugh.

Moments later Kisame departed.

Then Zetsu spoke.

"The Leaf shinobi should go next."

Immediately, both Itachi and I looked up.

"Them?" I asked.

Zetsu nodded.

"Team Kakashi."

My stomach sank.

Of all the people...

Anyone but them.

Pain's gaze shifted toward us.

"Itachi. (Y/N)."

Neither of us argued.

Moments later we found ourselves deep within the forest.

I let out a groan.

"This is going to be a disaster."

Beside me, Itachi actually chuckled.

"You say that every time you see your friends."

"They make it difficult."

A faint smile touched his lips.

"I know."

Then his expression became serious.

"They'll see through you if you're not careful."

I looked away.

"They won't."

"Naruto might."

The thought alone made my chest tighten.
