Sasuke vs Danzo

I arrived just in time to see the battle already underway.

The bridge trembled beneath the force of their attacks.

For a moment, I simply stood there.

Watching.

Sasuke.

Danzo.

The man I had spent years trying to save.

And the man responsible for destroying almost everything I had ever loved.

Karin was hiding behind a section of broken stone nearby. When she noticed me, her eyes widened briefly before returning to the battle.

I joined her without a word.

Neither of us spoke.

There was nothing to say.

Then my gaze landed on Danzo's arm.

My stomach dropped.

Sharingan.

So many Sharingan.

Embedded into his flesh like trophies.

Like prizes.

I immediately recognized several of them as belonging to people I had once known.

My hands began shaking.

The more I looked, the harder it became to breathe.

"You okay?" Karin asked quietly.

I didn't answer.

I couldn't.

All I could think about was Itachi.

Shisui.

The clan.

The dead.

Danzo had taken pieces of them and worn them like weapons.

The realization made me sick.

Below us, the battle continued.

Again.

And again.

And again.

Danzo died.

Then stood back up.

Danzo burned.

Then reappeared unharmed.

Danzo was impaled.

Then emerged elsewhere.

Each time another Sharingan closed.

Each time another stolen eye was sacrificed.

I clenched my fists.

Izanagi.

The forbidden technique.

He was literally consuming the eyes of dead Uchiha to stay alive.

My clan was being used to prolong the life of the man who helped destroy it.

Every second made me hate him more.

Yet somehow...

What frightened me wasn't Danzo.

It was Sasuke.

Because every time Danzo stood back up—

Sasuke's expression grew darker.

More furious.

More desperate.

More consumed.

It was like watching him drown.
