Fate

The next morning, I left the hospital before sunrise.

My hood concealed most of my face, and I kept my steps as light as possible as I made my way through the quiet streets of the Hidden Leaf.

Every part of my body ached.

My injuries from the Hidden Rain had not fully healed. My chakra was still low. Every movement pulled at bruises I didn't want to think about.

But none of that mattered.

Not today.

Today, Itachi and Sasuke were going to fight.

And I had to be there.

I had just reached the front gate when a familiar voice stopped me.

"Going somewhere?"

I froze.

Dammit.

Slowly, I turned around.

Tsunade stood behind me with her arms crossed, looking every bit as furious as I expected.

"You are in no condition to be out of bed," she said sharply.

"I know."

"Then why are you standing at the gate?"

I looked away.

She stared at me for a long moment before her expression softened.

"You're going to him."

I didn't answer.

I didn't need to.

Tsunade sighed.

"Are you sure you want to witness this?"

The question hit harder than I expected.

No.

I wasn't sure.

I wasn't sure of anything anymore.

But I knew one thing.

"I have to."

Tsunade's jaw tightened.

For a second, I thought she was going to drag me back to the hospital by force.

Instead, she said, "Fine. I'll let you go on one condition."

I held my breath.

"Tell me where it's happening."

My eyes widened.

"I can't."

"I'm not going to stop it," she said. "I know what this fight means. To both of them. To you." Her voice softened. "But if something goes wrong, I need to know where you are."

For a moment, I hesitated.

Then I looked down.

"The old Uchiha hideout."

Tsunade closed her eyes briefly.

When she opened them again, there was something almost sorrowful in her gaze.

"Come back alive."

I gave her a sad smile.

"I'll try."

Then I left.

By the time I reached the hideout, the sun had risen.

The building stood in silence.

Eerie.

Ancient.

Waiting.
