Training for the Finals

The next morning, I set out in search of a new training partner.

Without Sasuke around, I suddenly realised just how much I relied on him.

Not just for training.

For routine.

For familiarity.

For normalcy.

The thought was annoying enough that I tried not to dwell on it.

Eventually, I spotted Naruto wandering through the village.

Excited, I hurried toward him.

"Naruto!"

He turned around brightly.

"(Y/N)!"

"Do you wanna train with me?" I asked hopefully. "With Sasuke gone, I need a new training partner."

Naruto rubbed the back of his head sheepishly.

"Sorry! I'm training with my new teacher today."

My shoulders fell immediately.

"Oh."

Then Naruto brightened again.

"You could join us!"

I forced a smile quickly.

"No, it's okay. I'm sure I'll find someone."

Before he could argue, I turned and hurried away.

I didn't really know why I felt disappointed.

It wasn't Naruto's fault.

Eventually, I ran into Sakura and Ino walking together.

"Hey guys."

"What's wrong?" Sakura asked immediately.

"I'm looking for someone to train with."

I sighed dramatically.

"Sasuke's missing, Naruto has a teacher, and apparently everyone else in this village is busy."

Ino exchanged a look with Sakura.

"You could train with us."

I grimaced apologetically.

"No offence, but I need a challenge."

Ino immediately looked offended.

"RUDE."

Then movement farther down the street caught my attention.

Three familiar figures.

The Sand siblings.

Perfect.

I brightened instantly.

"Sorry girls, I'll see you later!"

Before they could respond, I raced toward the Sand siblings.

I landed in front of them with a grin.

"Hey! You're Temari, Kankurō, and Gaara, right?"

Kankurō blinked at me.

"And you're the girl everyone keeps talking about."

I sighed.

"Unfortunately."

Temari crossed her arms suspiciously.

"What do you want?"

"With Sasuke gone, I don't have anyone to train with," I explained quickly. "So I was wondering if you guys wanted to spar with me."

Temari raised an eyebrow.
