I should have known something was wrong.

The last thing I remembered was standing outside the village, staring down at the pendant Sasuke had returned to me.

The next thing I knew, I was waking up with a pounding headache.

I groaned and tried to move.

Rope dug into my wrists.

My ankles were tied to the legs of a chair.

I blinked several times, allowing my eyes to adjust to the darkness.

The room was dimly lit by a single lantern hanging from the ceiling.

And standing across from me were two people I never wanted to see together.

Kabuto Yakushi.

And Seiichi Uchiha.

I let out a long sigh.

"I really need to stop waking up tied to chairs."

To my surprise, Seiichi nodded.

"Yes. You do."

I stared at him.

Every time I saw him, it felt wrong.

This wasn't the brother I remembered.

This wasn't the boy who used to sneak me extra sweets when Mom wasn't looking.

This wasn't the teenager who carried me home whenever I fell asleep.

This wasn't the brother I mourned.

This man was a stranger wearing his face.

"How did you do it?" I asked.

Seiichi tilted his head.

"Do what?"

I narrowed my eyes.

"How did I not sense you?"

A faint smirk appeared.

"I can suppress my chakra."

My stomach sank.

"Even someone like you wouldn't notice me."

Then his smile widened.

"You can thank Sasuke for that."

The words hit harder than they should have.

Of course.

Of course Sasuke was involved somehow.

Seeing my expression, Seiichi sighed.

"If it makes you feel any better, he had no idea."

I looked up.

"He didn't?"

"No."

For the first time, something almost resembling amusement appeared on his face.

"All I needed was for him to keep you distracted long enough for me to get close."

The memory of the pendant flashed through my mind.

The awkward apology.

The guilt in his eyes.

The way he'd looked genuinely sorry.

I looked away.

That somehow hurt more.

"What do you want?"

Kabuto stepped forward.

"Information."

I rolled my eyes.
