My jaw dropped.

For perhaps the hundredth time today, I found myself wondering how the hell my life had reached this point.

Madara Uchiha was gone.

In his place stood the mother of the Sage of Six Paths.

Kaguya Ōtsutsuki.

The woman Hagoromo had told me about while I was technically dead.

Because apparently fighting a legendary Uchiha who had become the Ten-Tails jinchūriki wasn't enough.

Of course it wasn't.

Why would it be?

Kaguya's pale eyes moved across us.

Then her attention settled on Naruto and Sasuke.

Something changed.

Her Byakugan activated.

I immediately tensed.

She was looking at their chakra.

No—

through it.

Indra.

Asura.

Her grandsons.

She could see them.

Naruto and Sasuke moved simultaneously.

Kaguya's hair exploded outward.

"What the—"

Naruto ducked.

Sasuke twisted aside.

Her hair moved like dozens of living weapons, tearing through the space around them with enough force to make the ground tremble.

I reached for my sword.

Then stopped.

The chakra coming from her...

My fingers trembled.

I'd felt powerful chakra before.

Kurama.

Hashirama.

Madara.

The Ten-Tails.

Even Hagoromo.

But this was different.

Kaguya's chakra didn't feel like something belonging to a shinobi.

It felt ancient.

Bottomless.

Wrong.

For the first time since waking up—

I felt small.

Naruto and Sasuke jumped backward, catching their breath.

Neither looked particularly thrilled either.

Good.

At least it wasn't just me.

Kakashi Sensei stepped forward.

"What are your intentions?"

I glanced at him.

Of course Kakashi Sensei is the one brave enough to ask the terrifying chakra goddess what she wants.

Kaguya barely acknowledged him.

"It's futile to speak to you about it when all you do is tamper with chakra without understanding its true meaning."
