Arielle's pov...
I could feel Coraline's eyes burning on my bloody hands, and honestly, I felt great. It feels like a rush of adrenaline is coursing through my veins. It was the most thrilling, most exciting thing I have done in so long. That woman deserved it, I feel no remorse for her.
"Chuck me some wipes or something." I break Coraline's stare and she gets up and scurries into the bathroom.
"You okay?" Morcar says as he takes hold of my hands.
"Yep, never felt better." I smiled at him and then went to help Coraline find the wipes.
"Are you okay?" Coraline repeated the same as Morcar.
"Yeah I'm great." I find the wipes and start scrubbing the blood off of my knuckles.
"Whose blood is that?" Coraline asks warily.
"It's the woman's downstairs."
"You didn't kill her did you?"
"Of course I didn't. Is that really what you think of me?" I raised an eyebrow and jokingly shook my head.
"Then what did you do?" She regards me and totally ignores my question.
"We spoke."
"With your fists?"
"Shut up Coraline, I did what needed to be done, I had to." She closed her mouth and put her hand on her neck.
"I guess so. What happened then? What did you find."
"Well, there is a bounty set on all of us and apparently it is big money."
"Who has the bounty been placed by?"
"Asteria. The woman said that there is a co-operation called 'the watchers of the world' or something like that. Basically they just keep an eye on everyone and if anyone steps out of line they will not hesitate but to kill them. Kinda like the modern day mafia." I laugh at my own joke before continuing. "The woman told me that I shouldn't have come to this town, because everyone here is brainwashed, we will most likely be next."
"Right... So in a rundown this town is made up of fake people that are totally brainwashed and Asteria is hunting us down? Oh and there is a co-operation that watches people and probably listens to every word we say. Any news on the portal?"
"Nah not really, she just said it was in a lake somewhere in the forest but I think she was lying but we will find it we just have to remember where we got out of it before I guess. I took pictures of the monitors before leaving, I didn't really have a chance to look at them though."
"Right.. Have you got the pictures that you took?" I nod and grab the phone from my pocket which had little blood particles on it. Oops. I load up my pictures and click on the ones I took. "Is that?"
"My dad-" I zoom in on the picture to see my father strapped to a chair with a bloody face. What the hell is this? I scroll through the pictures to see multiple different angles of him strapped to the chairs. "What the-"
"Turn the brightness up and zoom in to the top right corner." I do as she says. "Who is that?"
"I have no clue."
"He has a badge on." I zoom in closer to the badge to the words T.W.O.T.W engraved into it.
"Oh my god! It all makes so much sense now." I run out of the bathroom and start to head for the door.
"What does?" Coraline shouts behind me.
"Callan isn't evil, it is The Watchers of the World! They brainwashed him."
"Who are the watchers of the world?" Morcar asks cluelessly.
"What are we gonna do about it?" Coraline ignores Morcar's question.
"Nothing, we are just going to leave. Now can you explain to Morcar whilst I go back and get my stuff ready, we leave today." Before they could say anything else, I shut the door and walk out. Mine and Morcar's room wasn't far away from Coraline's, so I didn't have to walk far. Who knew it would be such a mission just to get home, I feel so drained oh my god. I go to open the door to see that it is already open, unlocked. It didn't look like someone had just left it open, it looks like someone had broken in.
I push the door open slightly and peek my head round the corner. "D-dad?" I close the door quickly and look over to him. He didn't move, he didn't say a word. He just sat in the chair next to the window. "Dad?" I lock the door and scarcely walk over to him. "Oh my god." I lift my dad's limp head up to see the words engraved into his forehead: YOU KNOW TO MUCH.
I could feel my stomach start to twist and turn, he is dead. I don't understand. His body looks pale and his face looks old and broken. I can't believe they did this to him. I hesitantly search his pockets to try and find a letter or something, maybe this is a threat. No, this is definitely a threat. I pull out a piece of paper from his pocket and step back and crawl onto the bed, not taking my eyes off of the letter. It is in an envelope addressed to me, I don't think I can bring myself to open it. After contemplating for a few minutes I carefully open the letter and open it up.
Arielle,
I am writing this to you to tell you how sorry I am. The things I did to you and your friends are unforgivable, but I want you to know that it wasn't my fault. It started when I first got into black magic, I met the watchers of the world in which you will most likely know who they are now. Anyway, they offered me a job with money I could not refuse. They took me to see 'the boss', which was Asteria. She told me that she had informed you and your mother that I was going to be away on business for a while, in which I believed her. A few months in I was doing terrible things that she manipulated me into doing, such as killing, torturing and kidnapping people. I didn't know what I was doing at the time, because I had the urge to kill and hurt others, but that was all part of her plan. When I next saw her again she told me the truth about what she told you and your mother, and I thought maybe I was better off dead than to be putting you in danger, so I agreed to stay working for her.
She gave me this stuff that would turn me into a monster, and it made me the person that I never wanted to be. But when she told me I had to take you on, I told her I wouldn't do it. After her tampering with my mind for a few days, I finally agreed to do it. But when I saw you there, it reminded me how much I missed you, and your mother. Don't blame Charlie for this, he is currently on the run from Asteria because he was working with me, and he most likely won't know I am dead. But I just want you to remember I love you, and I needed to apologise before I am killed.
Also, I found a spell to erase immortality, when you get back to Galapanda speak to the sweet shop lady that you used to always go to, I forget her name.
Love dad
I could see the tears dripping onto the letter, why is this happening? First my mum, then my dad. We have been on the run for so long now I feel like it is never going to end, I just want to be at peace. I looked through his pockets again before pulling out a slightly smaller letter this time, being careful with this one as it felt wet like someone had dunked it in a barrel of water. I peel it open and look down at it.
24 Graven Street, Greensville.
I look down at the address again and try to work out if my dad or Asteria had planted it there. Without another thought, I shove both letters into my bag and zip it up. I walk over to my father one last time and close his eyes and kiss his head. I then pick up mine and Morcar's bag and without looking back, I leave the room.
