Two months later

I absolutely hate being sick. It’s one of the worst feelings in the world. I couldn’t eat. Everything that I caught a smell of made me nauseous. I hoped it was just the flu and nothing serious. I lay on the couch watching last night’s episode of True Blood with Iris. The twins were upstairs asleep and Tyler was in his room taking a shower. Zayn and the other guys were still on their radio tour. It is supposed to be over in a week or so. A scene came on where there was a lot of blood involved and I had to run to the bathroom. Normally I could watch this show, but since I’ve been sick I can’t watch anything with more than just a little blood. I lay back down on the couch and tried not to move. Tyler walked past me and sat on the couch. The scent of his body wash made me have to run to the bathroom again and I felt absolutely horrid when I came back in the living room. I lay on the couch again holding a cold wet washcloth over my face.

“Are you sure you are okay?” Iris asked.

“I think you need to go to the doctor and make sure it’s not the flu or something,” Ty said looking at me.

“Ugh, fine. Let’s go,” I said grumbling.

“We have to call first, sis,” Tyler laughed.

“Fine, then call. I just want this to be over.” Tyler pulled out his cell and called the doctor to make me an appointment. He grabbed our jackets from the closet and helped me to stand and put mine on.

“They said if we get there before 12, they can work us in before lunch,” he explained. He helped me walk to the car and I climbed in. When we got there, he sat me in a seat and signed me in before sitting beside me. They called me back and he helped me walk to the back of the office. I told the doctor what had been going on and for how long and he ran a few tests before he came back in the room.

“Well, we can’t find anything wring on any of the tests we did,” he said as he sat on the stool in front of me. “Mrs. Malik, have you considered that you could be pregnant?” My eyes shot up at him.

“Is that possible? I just had a miscarriage about three months ago,” I asked in wonder.

“Absolutely, I’ve had a couple of patients that have had pregnancies as soon as two weeks after a miscarriage. Would you like to take a pregnancy test while you’re here?” he asked.

“Might as well,” I laughed. “It will save me a trip to the store.” I smiled at him. He reached in a cabinet and grabbed a plastic cup with a lid. He took a label from my chart and placed it on the lid, handing me the cup.

“Alright, if you could, please go into the restroom and fill this. Place the lid on it when you’re done and just leave it on the counter beside the restroom.” He left the room and Tyler helped me walk to the bathroom. He stayed outside the door in case I needed him, thankfully I didn’t. I finished and washed my hands and the outside of the cup. I opened the door and Tyler took my arm to help me walk back to the room. I sat the cup on the counter like he asked before we walked back to the room. Twenty minutes later, the doctor came back in the room and sat on the stool. “Well, let me be the first to congratulate you, Mrs. Malik. You are pregnant,” he smiled. I looked up at Tyler. I hoped this one would go better than the last two.

“Well, at least it’s not the flu,” I laughed. “Is there anything I can do for the sickness?”

“You can try plain crackers, ginger ale, lemon water, or peppermints. I’m sure there are more, but those are the ones I’ve heard my patients talk about the most,” he smiled. I smiled and thanked him and we went back home. I called my other doctor to make an appointment for an ultrasound while Tyler drove us to the store. We walked through the store and picked up a few things: peppermints, crackers, lemons, and tea. He drove us home when we were done at the store. When we walked in, Iris was in the living room with the twins. I picked up Li and sat him on my knee, playing with him.
