Nymerial ran into the dark pine forest with Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli. They told the Hobbits to stay put but Nymerial knew that only Sam might follow that order. They all went to different directions, Nymerial went right into the deep forest as the others followed the path. She walked on the soft moss, trying to find any trace of the missing ones. But she couldn’t see anything about Frodo nor Boromir. She then closed her eyes and listened to each and every sound the forest made. But what she heard was what she wanted to: she heard hard footsteps, tens of them. ‘One of them isn’t a simple Orc. Its footsteps are way too loud for that.’ thought Nymerial. But luckily she then heard Frodo’s voice.

She followed it, passing the trees quickly and jumping over the pallen tree trunks, and found herself on the hillside. Nymerial looked around and saw Boromir and Frodo on the ground, fighting. She heard Boromir yell at Frodo

“It is not yours, save by unhappy chance. It could have been mine! It should be mine! Give it to me! Give it to me!”

But the little Hobbit clutched onto the ring. Frodo shouted to the man

“NO!”

And with that he slipped the ring onto his finger and disappeared. He kicked Boromir and ran off.

Nymerial went to Boromir who was looking around him desperately. He yelled after Frodo

“I see your mind. You will take the ring to Sauron! You will betray us! You will go to your death and the death of us all! Curse you! Curse you! And all the halfings!”

Nymerial had made it to Boromir. She then punched him in the stomach and Boromir fell to the ground. It seemed that the madness caused by the ring had left him and he looked around once again. He started to weep silently

“Frodo?…Frodo?…What have I done?…please…Frodo! Frodo, I am sorry. Frodo!”

Nymerial kneeled next to him and pulled him up. He fell onto her shoulder and Nymerial just hugged him. She didn’t know what he felt but she knew that he regretted his actions. Boromir let Nymerial go and thanked her

“Thank you, Nymerial. I could not do anything, the ring overtook me. I could not help it. I am sorry. I am so sor…”

But Nymerial stopped him

“You do not have nothing to be sorry for. The ring is filled with darkness, its main purpose is to get back to its master and it uses everybody to get to Him. It was not your fault.”

Boromir looked Nymerial into the eyes and said, his voice honest

“You really are the Dragonborn. You have such wisdom and courage that I have never seen before. I hope I can be as strong as you in the future.”

Nymerial couldn’t answer anything about that. She had never heard such words from no one. Nor was she ever expecting to. She just watched Boromir who had turned around and started walking down the hill, towards the camp they had made.

But he then stopped and looked back at Nymerial. Then ranger asked from Boromir

“What?”

Boromir walked back to her and asked in a quiet voice

“You do know that he cares for you?”

“Who? Aragorn? Of course he does, we are basically siblings.”

But Boromir shook his head lightly and said, lowering his voice

“Legolas. He does care for you dearly.”

But before Nymerial could argue back, she heard something in the distance.

It sounded like a sword crash. It seemed to be followed by a whistle of some arrows and an axe swing. She then heard two small voices shouting something like ’Hey!’, ’Over here!’ and ’Run!’. Nymerial and Boromir then saw Merry and Pippin running towards them. They then saw the Orcs running after them. ’Great, we are under attack.’ thought Nymerial, even the voice in her head was dripping with sarcasm. The Hobbits ran to them and Nymerial said to Merry and Pippin

“Get behind us! We will protect you!”

She pulled out her sword. She knew that she was better with her daggers but the Orcs’ blades were too big for her daggers. Nymerial heard the Horn of Gondor beside her. She looked at Boromir and saw the horn on his lips. They both then turned to the army of Orcs. They were ready to fight for their lives and for their friends’ lives.
