The five riders galloped the whole morning and by noon they could see a town on top of a hill. Edoras was before them. Gandalf stopped his horse with the others following his moves. As they looked at the capital of Rohan, the wizard warned his friends for what they will see there

"Edoras and the Golden Hall of Meduseld. There dwells Théoden, King of Rohan, whose mind is overthrown. Saruman's hold over King Théoden is now very strong. Be careful what you say. Do not look for welcome here."

He turned Shadowfax towards the opening gates of Edoras. Nymerial gave a last glance to the city and turned away, following Aragorn. The capital of Rohan seemed grim and tired, as if it was filled with some kind of dark and powerful illness. When they made their way to the wall, they saw graves covered with little white flowers, making it seem like the place was covered with snow. Nymerial said to the rest

"Look how beautiful are those eyes in the grass. They are called Forget-Me-Not, or Simbelmyne in the local language, because they bloom in every season where the dead are resting."

Gandalf added

"We have made it to the graves of Théoden's ancestors."

"Seven tombs on the left, nine on the right. Much time has passed since the golden hall was built."

said Aragorn and Legolas shared then his thoughts

"Five hundred times have the leaves fallen since that in my home, Mirkwood. And to us it seems like only a wink."

"But to the Mark Riders that time does not pass fast. The building of that hall is only remembered in songs and stories."

said Nymerial.

Aragorn then started to sing in some language she didn't know, it can't the language of the Elves nor Dwarves. She wondered out loud

"It must be Rohirric. It reminds me of the land itself: at times it sounds rich and flowing but on the other hand it is cold and harsh like the mountains. I wonder what it means."

Aragorn had stopped the song and looked in the distance. He thought for a while and then said

"This is how it would be sung in the Common Language.

Where is the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing?
Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the bright hair flowing?
Where is the hand on the harpstring, and the red fire glowing?
Where is the spring and the harvest and the tall corn growing?
They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow;
The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow.
Who shall gather the smoke of the dead wood burning,
Or behold the flowing years from the sea returning?"

As he was singing, a flag fell from the sky. It had a white horse on it. Nymerial and Aragorn looked at it as they started to move again.

They entered the village and straight away they were welcomed with lifelong looks from the villagers. As they made their way up to the top (to Théoden's hall), as they received more suspicious looks, Gimli mumbled

"You will find more cheer in a graveyard."

They gave away their horses when they reached the bottom of the stairs leading to the hall. They were greeted by guards on the top who didn't let them pass. One of them said to the strangers

"I cannot allow you before Théoden King so armed, Gandalf Greyhame. By order of...Grima Wormtongue."

Gandalf nodded at his friends, telling them to give away their weapons. As Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli were handing over their weapons, Nymerial let out a deep sigh. She said to the guards

"Well, this is going to take some time..."

The guards didn't understand what she meant. But hen she started to remove all of her weapons, they were shocked. She went to the table next to the door and put her sword onto it. She then took out her six small knives from the straps on her arms. Then she opened her bag and got her slingshot. She also got her lock-picking kit and held it up, as if asking 'Is this a weapon too?' The guards nodded, their eyes wide in surprise. Then she got her darts out from the secret compartment. Nymerial then looked at Gandalf in hope, but he shook his head. She got out her daggers from her boots and gave them to the guard who spoke to her and her friends. She then grabbed his collar and looked him dead in the eye, while whispering

"If I find anything gone or even misplaced, I swear on the moon, you will not see another day."

She then let go of him and went to Gandalf. They started to walk into the hall, when the guard stopped them once again. He said to Gandalf

"Your staff."

The wizard answered

"Eh? Oh. You would not part an old man from his walking stick?"

The guard thought about it and then let them pass. They walked away from the light outside and into the darkness hidden in the hall of Théoden.
