ESCARGOT MÉNAGE À TROIS

...🛶...

AS the Leery boy spent yet another evening ranting and raving about his broken relationship, Heather and Joey shared silent looks to convey just how equally fed up they were as they lounged on Dawson's bed, watching the boy pace back and forth across his room.

"Do you realise it's been nearly two weeks since Jen and I broke up, and not once has she made an effort to get together?" He questioned "I mean, spend some time, go to the movies. You think it's odd? 'Cause it seems a little odd to me."

Joey let out a sigh as she looked to her boy "Dawson, you are aware that she broke up with you, right?"

"Of course I am." Dawson grumbled "It's just... there's a certain way to handle these things, and I thought Jen would hold herself to that standard."

"That's your problem, Dawson." Heather groaned as she sat up, swinging her legs round to the edge of the bed "You have these idealistic standards straight from unrealistic movies that no one can live up to. Be prepared for eternal disappointment."

Joey sighed once again "You know, not to sound harsh, but you can't live in the past. You have to start preparing for life after Jen."

"Something tells me Joey has a theory." Dawson muttered as he sat by his window.

"Okay." Joey nodded "There are 3 main areas to focus on— first: public perception."

He raised an eyebrow "Such as?"

"Well, from now until the end of the semester you'll be known as the guy Jen dropped. Most girls will view you as tainted goods, and, of course, there'll be the few who will feel incredibly sorry for you and offer this certain kind of sympathy. My advice: avoid them."

"That's easy enough." Dawson shrugged "What's next?"

Joey hesitated, sharing a look with Heather "Other guys."

"Other guys?"

"Look, Dawson, you have to be prepared for the possibility that Jen will begin dating again." Heather explained gently "Just because you haven't moved on, doesn't mean she hasn't."

Joey nodded "Seeing her around school with her new boyfriend, watching her from this very window as she pauses coyly by her garden gate and accepts a goodnight kiss from a guy you feel physically and intellectually superior to in every way, and you can't possibly"
