PURITY TEST
...🛶...

WHILST English Lit should have have been more enjoyable for Heather now that Tamara Jacobs was gone, it unfortunately only became more unbearable with a man like Mr. Peterson teaching.

"What light through yonder window breaks? It is the midterm and your impeding failure is but hours away." Mr. Peterson looked around his students "Blue books. You will notice they are blank. And for many of you, they will score higher as such than when actually written in. Please sign your real name, ahem."

He broke off into a cough before continuing "As for the test, ahem, it will cover everything that we have studied in English literature thus far and it will be worth 50% of this term's grade. Main points of interest: Shakespeare, Dickens, the Romantics, and your favourite- the read everybody's talking about- Beowulf. I will be hosting a study session in this classroom at 3 o'clock. It is my recommendation that you attend, unless of course your parents have dedicated an east wing or two to an Ivy League institution, in which case your tragic, east coast aristocratic, social alcoholic fate has already been sealed-"

Heather flinched as the blue book was set rather roughly on her desk and she swallowed as she looked up at the man who raised an unimpressed eyebrow her way "This is more than just an exam, people. It's your life."

HEATHER sat at the cafeteria table with Andie, her chin resting in her palm as her eyes fluttered shut beyond her control. She was exhausted, the nightmares of her attack continuously haunting her and for that, she couldn't remember the last good nights sleep she had.

"Ménage a tois... ever been in one?"

The McPhee girl's sudden question had her eyes snap open, head lifting from her hand "Wait, what?" She scoffed out a laugh "All hail, the queen of non sequiturs has spoken."

"It's not an non sequitur. It's this months Jane." Andie defended, showing her the magazine article "It's a purity test."

Her eyebrows furrowed "A what?

"A purity test." Andie shrugged as they stood "You've heard of them. An assortment of sexual questions that when totaled are meant to gauge your level of sexual experience."

"Not much of a test for me." Heather snorted as the pair dumped their trays before heading for the door "Except the snails..." she gave the blonde a sheepish shake of the head at her confused expression "Long story."

Andie bit her lip "So, you've never... you know?"

"Nope." Heather shrugged "What about you?"
