...🛶...

THE Potter's house had become a construction site, what with the sister's extending their home and turning it into a Bed and Breakfast. The excited smile hadn't left Bessie's face that morning as the men got to work after she whipped up a platter of food and fresh pots of coffee "Who's great idea was this again?"

"Mine." Joey and Heather spoke in sync before the Leery girl rolled her eyes with a smile at her best friends scoff "Okay, it was Joey's but I knew where to get the help."

"Thank your dad again for reaching out to his friends, it's a huge help." Bessie placed a hand on Heather's arm before heading inside to check on Alexander.

Heather nodded with a smile before turning to her friend, watching as her gaze drifted to her coffee cup "Okay, Jo, what's up?"

The Potter girl sighed "Well, considering a whole lot of our insurance money is going to be swallowed up in the B&B, I just hope it all works out."

"It will." Heather assured "Of course it will."

"It better." Joey mumbled "I can't go back to the marina gig."

Heather frowned "Why? What happened with Rob?"

"He was going on a date with... somebody I cared about, so I crashed to warn her and he fired me the next day."

"God, what a creep." Heather scoffed "So who was the girl?"

Joey shook her head, avoiding Heather's gaze "No one you know."

"Jo, I know everyone that you know. So come on, who was it?" Heather questioned in amusement before the sympathetic glint in her friends eyes had her exhale sharply "Oh."

It was Andie.

Joey frowned "I wasn't going to tell you. And if it's any consolation, it won't last. I mean, Andie's way too smart to fall for that jerk's act—"

"Hey, it's okay. Whatever makes her happy, right?" Heather cleared her throat and made a show of glancing to her watch "Hey, look at the time. I gotta get going. I have this stupid Homecoming Queen gala to plan."

"Heather—"

The Leery girl cut her off by heading for her car "See you later, Jo."

...🛶...

HEATHER let out a sigh as she stepped through her front door, making her way into the kitchen "Dad! Dawson, I'm home and I need all hands on deck— Mom?"
