THE BLUES

...🛶...

HEATHER had covered quite a lot since she'd started seeing Dr. Marlie. From her parents, her attack, her sexuality, even how Mr. Peterson had treated her before his early retirement. The man couldn't even face the board meeting.

But everything Heather told the woman only made her realise how in control the girl tried to be. And she couldn't be, life didn't allow for that.

"I'm going to give you a prescription, Heather. But not for a drug. I prescribe for you, one night of imperfection. A night of fun, let loose. Today's your birthday, right?"

Heather eyed her suspiciously but nodded "Yeah, sixteen."

"Well happy birthday." She smiled "And it sounds like the perfect opportunity to me. Be a normal teenager, go out, have fun. Let loose."

...🛶...

IN order to take the twins out for their birthday, Pacey had borrowed his dad's sheriff's car but Dawson was in a bad mood after declaring his love for Joey, stating that they were soulmates now she and Jack had broken up. But the Potter girl still didn't want to get back together and Dawson couldn't understand why.

"So this is what it's like when you're being carted off to prison, huh?" Heather broke the silence, trying to turn the night around.

"That depends, there's more than one kind of prison." Dawson retorted "There are the state regulated ones, and then there are ones you get trapped in when your life is going nowhere and everyone else around you seems to be moving forward."

Pacey sighed and glanced over to his best friend "Took a happiness pill this morning, did we Dawson?"

"No, just a strong dose of bleak reality."

The Witter boy watched Heather frown in the rear view mirror, slumping back against the seat before he looked to Dawson "Listen, Buddy, on any other day of the year I'd be more than happy to talk to you about this, but seeing as today is your birthday, and Heather's birthday, why don't we try and concentrate on the positives?"

Heather smiled, it only widening as she spotted a Blue's Club "Like that I've found exactly where we're gonna go. There."

Pacey followed her finger and groaned "No, no, no."

"Yes, yes, yes." She smirked, glancing between the two hesitant boys "Doctors orders."

...🛶...

AS Pacey headed to the men's room, the Leery twins sipped their drinks in silence before Heather sighed and looked to her sulking brother "Come on, Dawson, it's our sixteenth birthday. Let's have one night that's just us, letting loose and having fun and forget the drama that is our daily lives."
